One of the top relief pitchers in Major League Baseball history, Jeff Reardon, has been arrested for robbing a Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, jewelry store.
Police say the four-time All Star walked into the jewelry store Monday and handed an employee a note saying he had a gun and that the store was being robbed.
Reardon fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, but police found him at a nearby restaurant. They recovered the stolen money and charged him with armed robbery. Police say Reardon had no gun and offered no resistance when taken into custody.
The 50-year-old Reardon retired in 1994 with a total of 367 saves and a 3.16 earned run average. He played a total of 16 seasons for the New York Mets, Montreal Expos, Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds and New York Yankees.

Sounds like a scene from an Elmore Leonard/Quentin Tarantino flick.

No, that is what he said. He said some drugs that he was taking for some condition made him rob the store. LOL.
You will learn this soon enough.

My laughter was directed at your Traficante comment.
The blaming the drugs thing is old hat. Or in his case, old toup.

Hey, I wanna get some of those "make me rob a bank" drugs. That would be fun. Rob a bank, don't get killed doing it, get caught, and then blame it on the drugs so you don't have to do time. What a trip! Better than roller coasters. Great story to tell the grandkids. "Say, kids, did I ever tell you about the time I robbed a bank? Now, I really didn't want to rob it, but,..."
And, if you don't get caught... Blame that on the drugs, too.

Reardon had a 20-year-old son who died of a drug overdose in February 2004, which has been "very difficult for him and his family," and has been on medication for depression. Reardon, who is married and has two other children, also underwent a heart angioplasty last week and has been taking medication for that condition.
Lt. David O'Neill said Reardon did not have a gun and offered no resistance when handcuffed.
"He said it was the medication that made him do it and that he was sorry," O'Neill said. "He asked me to apologize to his fans and friends," Beers said. "This bizarre incident is completely uncharacteristic of Jeff Reardon."

He said some drugs that he was taking for some condition
made him rob the store.
Just another sad tragedy caused by our lack of socialized medicine.
Hillary! will exploit this on her march to The Oval Office.
