McCain/Lieberman 2008?
GOP Bloggers ^ | January 2, 2006 | Mark Noonan

No, this isn't speculation I've read elsewhere, nor have I heard any rumors of something like this coming to pass - but bear with me a minute while I lay out the why of it all.

The United States has many problems facing it over the next ten yeas. In spite of assertions to the contrary in some quarters, we must reform Social Security and Medicare before they go bankrupt, or bankrupt the nation. We must get a handle on our energy shortages - both expansion of current sources and development of replacements demand our attention. We have to figure out what sort of immigration policy we are going to have. These are just some of the bigger issues we face - there are, of course, scores of lesser issues which also must be given their due time - but the most important issue facing the United States over the next ten years is the War on Terrorism. Literally millions of lives are at stake, as well as having the liberty of the world hanging in the balance. The War on Terrorism is a war we must win, and it is a war which will take at least another 5 to 10 years to win.

In five years, it will be January 2nd, 2011...President Bush will have been out of office for nearly two years. We know that President Bush will keep fighting this war no matter what right up to the end...but the end for President Bush comes on January 20th, 2009. Who shall take over on that day? Will that person be as determined upon fighting until victory? God help us all if he is not.

I can't think of a more depressing scenario unless it was Hillary and anyone else.

They wouldn't get my vote, but they would stand a good change at gaining the power they seek.

I have a hard time thinking McCain would actually 'share' the ticket with anyone. LOL

Will never happen. Lieberman is a man of principal, McCain is an opportunist. They could never come together.

People are deceived into thinking that partisan politics is a bad thing. So they will jump at this. I suppose the good side is that their myth will be exposed as the counterfeit it is. Ah, but will it be too little to late? I am beginning to think so.

Power in the hands of the people is nearly nothing more than an American historical novelty. Once lost, will we ever get it back?

sorry, can't/won't for McCain for anything.

And Liberman would be misplaced as a veep.

Now is a candidate suggested Liberman as Sec of State or Defense, that'd be an idea.

Good point, except I think he will do anything to gain the power of the Presidency. Once there, Lieberman will be toast.

It is already too late to save Social Security and Medicare. There is enough child like elderly who would react emotionally if any reform is attempted. It is worst if it comes from the GOP because the Dems with their willing accomplices in the MSM would ratchet up the political pressure. There is simply not enough votes to revamp Social Security and Medicare. I think the GOP should concentrate on establishing tax laws that encourage people to save for the coming "Generational" Storm. Conservatives should push for a financial life boat fashioned by tax laws, that will allow their constituents to survive and let the Dem misled constituent perish financially when the system collapses. Our last chance to reform was under President Bill Clinton (easier for a Dem to break the bad news for reform) because our nation was at peace, had a good economy overall, a balanced budget and he was reasonably popular. History will judge President Clinton as a leader who squandered opportunities to solve some of the US major structural problems.

I think that a legitimate third party is going to emerge in the next five years, and will replace (as has always been the case) one of the two majors.

The question is, which one is going away?

If the New Party (which will be called something else, obviously) is McCain, Lieberman, Giuliani, Rice, Miller, with a few leftists thrown in (Harold Ford, etc) then the GOP will go away.

If the new party is openly socialist, the Dems will no longer be necessary.

Who knows?

Well, I'll be voting for my Republican Congressional rep and senator in 2008 if this is the ticket, but I'll never vote for McCain for President. Even.if.it.means.Hillary. Sorry, but if McCain makes it out of the primaries as the Republican candidate, I can wait for a decent alternative in 2012 or 2016.

What a dream ticket that would be!

(If one was a borderline communist.)

Many have touted LIEberman as one who should cross over and become a RepublicRAT. Just a glance at this leftist's voting record shows him to be a pinko in the same hue as Teddy Kennedy.

McCain is a traitor and every time someone throws his captivity in a Vietnam prison in my face I have to tell them that being a POW does not a hero make. These two weasels would make a great ticket for the DemocRATs or the Socialist Party.

Lieberman already did once - with Al Gore.

I lean that way too. I just don't like the guy. Others make some good points that he's not as bad as I think. They're probably more accurate than I, I just can't get around his ego.
