If the good reverend wants me to have children, he can send me the cash to cover the cost. Last time I checked, bringing a newborn to adulthood costs about $1 Million. Each.

Birth control is not the wilful destruction of human life, so it is not murder.
It is, however, the refusal to consent to God's will. God desires that marriage leads to sex and sex leads to children.
Incidentally, the command to procreate is the first one given to Mankind after the fall of Adam, "Be fruitful and multiply."

No, I meant why isn't the preacher posting scripture to back up his beliefs.

OH!

I think there is so much child abuse and neglect because people who shouldn't be having kids have them anyway... because "everyone" has kids. It is just something you do.. get married, have kids, and die. People give more thought about acquiring a new pet than the decision to have children.

Some people just aren't suited to have kids, and they're smart not to.

Did you read what I posted the first time? My husband had a drug problem for 13 years and I elected not to subject a child to that.

My old age isn't your problem or your business, so go thump on someone else.

“We grow up by having children. Without that responsibility, we have a generation of perpetual adolescents just growing old." I wholeheartedly agree with the Rev on this one; had my first after 40 years of putting it off and the second 18 months later; best thing I ever did.

It's the headline writer who is at fault, not the preacher. What the preacher said was is shown later: "it's 'an absolute revolt against God's design' if husbands and wives purposely avoid bearing children."

From what you say, you did not PURPOSELY avoid bearing children.

In a CNN interview...

This guy is clearly a graduate of the Pat Robertson School of Media Relations.

Sheesh!

"can't afford them"

by whose budgetary definitions?

God gave me 5 children and I've never looked back - never once considered whether I could afford them.

I don't have a $500,000 home or brand-new cars and nobody starves.

"afford" can be defined all over the place. Today, so many material needs trump the spiritual ones.

Where is the scripture to back this up?

"Be fruitful and multiply." The first commandment given to Adam as he was sent out into the world.

Despite the sensationalist bash the Baptist packaging, this is an absolute truism.

Liberalism is heavy on the not having kids. The perpetual adolescent is very redolent of liberal society, especially the 60's generation.

Can someone just slap him?

Why? For stating the obvious?

I thought that instruction was directed toward Adam and Eve. That should let everybody else off the hook.

Well then the "10 strong suggesstions" and Jesus'
command to keep His commandments are out the window
with everything else. sarc\

As is often the case, this RC agrees with this SBC preacher.

Bottom line though, Mohler's comments (as reported) don't consider God's Sovereignty. Namely, if He means for you to have a child, no amount of condoms or pills will stop it.

Is voluntary chastity an option?
