That doesn't sound very prudent to be doing during wartime. Unless of course they getting ready for a bigger one, say for, Iran.

Is that particularly smart, given the capacity of a rogue nuke to summarily destroy one area?

I see everyone has the same first thought.
This many carriers in one place is a very tempting target.

Good shot in the arm for the local merchants during the time the ships are in port.
Hooters should do a box-office business.

Isn't the Carl Vinson in RCOH at Newport News?
If my count is correct, that would mean that the Eisenhower and the Kennedy would be the only two ships available for the Atlantic and Med.
Except, wasn't the Kennedy tagged for early retirement before then? Will it even be in service at that point?

I really wish the American Press would stop telling everyone in the world just how much of our hardware is going to be 'where' and for 'how long' Jesus hasn't anyone learned that 'loose lips sink ships'?

If I was a science fiction writer, I'd make up something crazy about all those carriers getting some new high-tech nuclear powered upgrade that would let each of them defend a very lare area from incoming missiles.
Doggone it, that whole "loose lips" thing is so frustrating sometimes!

Iran does have a fleet of super "mini-subs." I think they top out at 3 knots, and with a direct hit can sink a canoe.

I visited Norfolk in the mid 60s.
Docked side by side was the Independence and the Intrepid.
I had a nice tour of the Independence, the larger of the two carriers.
