TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran would launch medium-range missiles if attacked, a military leader said on Saturday, accusing Britain and the United States of arming rebels as international pressure mounts on Tehran over its nuclear plans.
"If we come under a military attack, we will respond with our very effective missile defence," Yahya Rahim Safavi, commander in chief of the Revolutionary Guard, told state television.
Military experts reckon the Revolutionary Guard's Shahab-3 missiles have a range of some 2,000 km, meaning Israel, U.S. bases in the Gulf and foreign troops in Iraq lie within their range.
Safavi repeated Tehran's allegations that Britain and the United States are arming rebels in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, which has most of Iran's abundant oil reserves.
"Occupying forces in Iraq, particularly those in the south, provide Iranian agents with material for bombing," he said. "British and U.S. intelligence services should avoid interfering in our affairs."
The Revolutionary Guard is a parallel military answerable directly to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Don't know why we on't view this as a war we're about to have, it is. Iran does aus a perverse favor if it counterattacks, and we'd better be ready for it. The fundamentalists in Iran have to be defeated and rounded up like nazis.

Yeah, "the worlds most sophisticated air defense system" really protected Saddam in 1991. Any system devised by humans can be destroyed by other humans. And Mullahs, you are SERIOUSLY pissing off the world's best killers. What ever our other many failure as a society, Americans still kill people and wreck stuff better then anyone else in the world. Ask the Germans, the Japanese, the North Koreans, the Vietnamese, the Chinese, the Afghanis or the Iraqis about it and think REAL hard Iran. Your leaders are running full speed towards a cliff, once over that cliff, there is no turning back.

Probably with an accuracy of +/- 50 km. Unfortunately, this analysis shows a CEP of only 190 meters.

THIS TELLS ME THE IRANIANS ARE VERY WORRIED ABOUT A POSSIBLE ATTACK. I'M WONDERING IF SOME KIND OF GUERRILA WAR AGAINST TEHRAN (SOMETHING SIMILAR TO HOW WE CONDUCTED THE WARS AGAINST THE SOVIET UNION IN AFGHANISTAN AND THE SANDANISTAS IN NICARAGUA) MIGHT BE THE BEST WAY TO OVERTHROW THE MULLAHS?

If they do retaliate we'll go through a period of missile attacks similar to the Gulf War. We couldn't locate and take out all of their Scuds and we won't locate and take out all of their missile launchers either.
If you don't want missile launches, then you gotta go seize territory on the ground.
