What about a ticket and a fine?
If I'm blasting my house stereo, I get hit with a misdemeanor ticket and fine. If I do it in my car, I lose the car? Doesn't seem consistent to me. I know that bass boomers are obnoxious and I'd like to line up and pimp-slap all of them, but this car seizure thing is ripe for abuse. It's proven time and again that the cops can't handle this kind of authority.
Only if the judges would enforce the fines. We have an ordinance here in Chesterfield County, VA that states you get a ticket and a fine if an officer can hear your stereo from your closed up vehicle 50 yds away. Unfortuneately the courts throw them all out on a technicality.
The ticketing officer must prove that they were at least 50 yds away, and at that distance, unless it is the only car on the road, the burden of proof that the right vehicle was ticketed is on the officer. I don't think that anyone here has had to pay the fine.
What is really needed is a way to effectively neutralize the noise from these things.
Unless they are specifically targeting large subwoofers that over-emphasize frequencies from 20 - 1000Hz...they would be better off limiting the output wattage of the amplifiers driving those systems.
It isn't necessarily the speakers...it's the amplifiers. 1000 watts in a car is simply ridiculous. Anybody who can't get it done with 50 watts per channel isn't doing it right.
50% of last years gross would work for me...
Sounds good to me and it falls under Disturbing the Peace. Those systems are very intrusive and most persons do not realize how much so. A low frequency tone is near impossible to keep from hearing. Try this one the next time you hear the booming. Place your fingers in your ears tight. You will still hear it. Place your hands over your ears tight you will still hear it. Put on shooters muffs you will still hear it. Why? Because low frequencies penetrate the skull. The skull is part of the Vestibular or hearing system.
They have NO RIGHT for their music to invade my person. The music until out of hearing range is impossible to not hear. To those seeing this as racial white teenagers & early 20's are the worst offenders actually.
