You know, this is the biggest non-issue that ever got blown to these proportions.
The Federal Government has no authority to step in unless requested by the State. FEMA was right on it just as soon as that happened.
The people of LA should fire their useless Governor, and replace their Mayor in N.O.

THEY are the incompetent ones!

Cordially,
GE

I guess those people in government in LA. think that its the White House's job to keep them safe, while their people are dirt poor and they live in mansions....

Somehow people around America has to understand, our States are there to take care of things and bottom line, its up to all of us to take care of ourselves.....

I can easily tell how skewed the poll is:

Ray Nagin , Christine Blanco & Mary Landrieau aren't even listed as Reasons for the relief hold-ups.

Never. Ever. It will just have to be ignored.

I remember seeing something that said more whites were killed than blacks by Katrina, even though NO is, like, 70% black.

I think it was here...cuz it wouldn't have been on the MSM.

Ah the voice of reason. It is the city of NO and the State of LA fault. The feds have no first responder authority here.

You are right the real blame should fall on the state congressional delegation (who arranged for and received federal money for many years to safe guard levees) along with Blanco and Nagen. The poll is useless because these choices are omitted.

I've now listened to two radio newsbreaks calling Bush a liar, claiming that he actually knew about the levee break a day ahead of his actual claim. This isn't even what Brown said. While he claims to have emailed the "WH" about the levee break, Bush wasn't even at the WH...so we don't even know if he was told. Yet, the media is quoting residents as Bush being a liar based on this testimony.

Regardless of this, it was still Terry Ebbert (NO's HS Director) who was informing people that the levee break was a "slow-rise" and that "he" would have it under control in a "few hours." Quote:

"It's a very slow rise, and it will remain so until we plug that breach. I think we can get it stabilized in a few hours," Terry Ebbert, New Orleans' homeland security chief told The Associated Press.

Officials are planning to use twin-rotored army helicopters to drop 1,360-kilogram sandbags on the breach to stop the flow of water, which would normally have been evacuated by a network of pumps."

In other words, even if Bush did know, he was obviously under the impression that the state officials were dealing with this problem. Heck, it was on this same day the Ebbert was quoted as saying Brown was doing a wonderful job.

"The Federal Government has no authority to step in unless requested by the State. FEMA was right on it just as soon as that happened."

Yeah...and what these idiots are ignoring is that NO's own Homeland Security Director (Terry Ebber) knew about this breech and said it would be fixed in a "few hours." He outlined the strategy to the frickin' press, claiming the breech was a "slow-rise" and that they were going to use Helo's to plug the gap. Gee..maybe the WH took Ebbert's word and believed he had it under control as "he" claimed.

The poll doesn't have Governor Blanco's name - she was MORE than responsible for the chaos that happened before and what followed Katrina.

The White House could only do what the law specified as to states rights and were far too politically correct to keep from embarrassing Blanco. The Blanco signals were all about her rights. Politics about the unused trailers is next. IMHO Michael Browne got buffeted by the Politics of Katrina until it was too late at which point ‘help’ could only get into some of New Orleans. Meanwhile, other cities and towns in Katrina’s path got along fairly well in the face of such a disaster.

No matter how President Bush handled the situation, he can’t win because of the MSM and politics of the loony left. I think he has done very well considering what he is up against. Tip: don’t be such a gentleman next time GW!

What an assinine question. Time of the Federal response is secondary at best. We Floridians know that it's the lack of local and state response that cost lives.

My recollection is that the evening of the hit, news reporters were saying that New Orleans had dodged a bullet, and it wasn't until the next day (overnight at the earliest) that the levees had broken.
