I am a huge Cheney fan but I have always thought he would resign by 2007. I figure he will use health as his reason. I always thought Cheney was the type to put country ahead of self.

If he resigns, President Bush can install his choice for the 2008 Presidential nominee. The person selected will be given a bit of high level on the job training and get the public comfortable with the choice.

I always thought if Clinton resigned in 1999, Gore would have won the 2000 election.

No way do I think Cheney should resign over this manufactured scandal. In fact, David Gregory should be forced to resign for being a jerk.

I meant to say that I'm glad the VP said what he said too and wasn't trying to nitpick either about why he delayed responding.

Maybe I'm being too emotional, but as a woman, I can tell you my sense is that Cheney is handling this as best he can, but he'll never forget or forgive himself.

Brit Hume is saying right now that Cheney is still very shaken and I hope the press can act more honorably and give him some space to handle this privately.

So let me get this straight. Although the VP did not break any LAW, did not intentionally harm his friend, did not lie (but was forthcoming in interview with Brit), you think he should resign, because of a PERCEPTION (some) people have?

PERCEPTION is just that- perception. Reality is often a different matter altogether- and without guiding principles, it is easy to get caught UP in perceptions and act on them. People of principle STOP, LOOK and LISTEN before acting- knowing they can't always trust their perceptions.

It would be interesting if Cheney stepped down. Not that I'm suggesting he should, just saying it would turn things on its head for a while.
