GENEVA (Reuters) - The United States on Thursday faced mounting international calls to close its Guantanamo prison camp with U.N. investigators saying detainees there faced treatment amounting to torture.

In a 40-page report, which had been largely leaked, five United Nations special envoys said the United States was violating a host of human rights, including a ban on torture, arbitrary detention and the right to a fair trial.

The report is likely to fuel new Arab anger over the treatment of Iraqi inmates at Baghdad's U.S.-run Abu Ghraib prison after Australian TV broadcast more images of abuse there.

"The United States government should close the Guantanamo Bay detention facilities without further delay," the human rights' rapporteurs declared.

Until that happened, the U.S. government should "refrain from any practice amounting to torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment," they added

"The excessive violence used in many cases during transportation ... and forced-feeding of detainees on hunger strike must be assessed as amounting to torture," the report said."

Well guys there it is. Feeding inmates is now torture according to the fine people at the UN, and probably the MSM and the democratic party, as well.

I think the detainees in Gitmo should be tortured. They are terrorists for God's sake! They don't even blink their eyes when they blow up hundreds of innocent children! Why should they be treated like human beings? I simply don't get it.
The MSM screams about a Qoran book being kicked by U.S soldiers, but they didn't shed a single tear for the Beslan Kids, for the 3000 lives of 9/11, Van Gogh, women stoned to death........

What should happen is that we should kick the UNs butt as they are run by left-wing fascist scum.

Since the European nations think that the detainees should be released, send the prisoners by cargo planes to Europe and turn them loose there.

How could the UN make a ruling on that? As I recall, they've never been allowed to set foot in Gitmo, so their reports couldn't be based on anything more than hearsay.

What these people don't understand is that as far as the Geneva convention is concerned, these detainees could all be lined up and shot tomorrow as spies.

And the timing of the media-release of additional Abu Grahib prison fotos is just a coincidence too! Like not.

Not surprisingly, our so called allies, the EU.
"Adding to pressure on Washington, the European Parliament was expected to back a call later on Thursday for Guantanamo to be closed and all prisoners to be treated in full accordance with international humanitarian law. The resolution, which reaffirms a commitment to fighting terrorism, is backed by all major political groups within the European legislature."

Feeding inmates is now torture

Not to mention that it is a "Muslim appropriate" diet that we have to offer them as well as a totally "Muslim" way of life. It is our soldeirs who can't murmer anything about their religion.

The five U.N. investigators, who include Manfred Nowak, special rapporteur on torture, and Leila Zerrougui, chairperson of the U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, said the findings were based on interviews with past detainees, lawyers and replies to questions put to the U.S. government.

How is that for thorough & impartial investigating?
