Reporter Caught Clueless on Non-Cheney News
NewsMax ^ | February 16, 2006 | Carl Limbacher

The press has spent so much time this week obsessing over Dick Cheney's hunting accident that some reporters have been rendered completely oblivious to other important news developments.

After delivering yet another breathless report on Cheneygate Thursday morning, usually reliable ABC Radio News reporter Ann Compton was caught clueless about the takeover of six major U.S. ports by a Dubai company based in the United Arab Emirates - a country said to have ties to terrorism.

Compton's exchange with WABC Radio's John Gambling went like this:

GAMBLNG: What else [besides Cheneygate] is being talked about in the White House?

COMPTON: Absolutely nothing. This has sucked the oxygen out of President Bush's trip yesterday. He went all the way to the Wendy's hamburger headquarters in Ohio to talk about health care. . . . . Is that on the front page of any paper today? I did not do a single spot on it yesterday . . . .

COMPTON: [Cheneygate] really has dominated everything else . . . It is a fascinating story and one that ABC has reported very, very vigorously at the ground level and I think very responsibly.

GAMBLING: Ann, let me ask you a question. Is anybody talking about this story . . . about the Dubai Ports World Corporation running our major ports in the United States? You know anything about that?

COMPTON: Whooops. [Nervous laughter]

GAMBLING: The reason I ask you is exactly what you just finished talking about - sucking the oxygen out of the White House and Washington press corps . . . . This is like letting Saudi Arabia do security in our airports. And I think that Washington reporters need to jump on this thing.

COMPTON: Well, send me a quick email, John. It sounds like something I need to see. [END EXCERPT]

I had never seen a picture of Ann Compton before. She looks eerily like Laura Bush. Apologies to Mrs. Bush for the comparison.

I heard this live today...couldn't believe my ears...she sounded so excited to talk about this Cheney news...and she actually said..."it is such a wooonnderful story.." then caught herself and and said something like - "Well, I shouldn't say wonderful..but.." ....then used another term...
She sounded idiotic and childish -- then was suddenly caught off guard when John Gambling asked her about the US Port story and how John and Representative Peter King (from NY - Long Island) discussed this matter that is not in the news at all.

I have no idea what Legacy Media means.....color me stupid.

It is based on a common term from Computer Systems. A Legacy System. Wikipedia says:

"A legacy system is an existing computer system or application program which continues to be used because the user (typically an organization) does not want to replace or redesign it. Many people use this term to refer to "antiquated" systems. Legacy systems are considered to be potentially problematic by many software engineers (for example, see Bisbal et al., 1999) for several reasons. Legacy systems often run on obsolete (and usually slow) hardware, and sometimes spare parts for such computers become increasingly hard to obtain. These systems are often hard to maintain, improve, and expand because there is a general lack of understanding of the system. The designers of the system may have left the organization, so there is no one left to explain how it works. Such a lack of understanding can be exacerbated by inadequate documentation or manuals getting lost over the years. Integration with newer systems may also be difficult because new software may use completely different technologies."

Much of that definition is similar to the Lagacy Media. Old, antiquated, slow, problematic, fails to use latest technology, etc...

The Dow, the new housing boom, all ignored in favor of Lame Duck Cheney's non-story. algore's paid speech by OBL's family ignored. Arab ownership of US port story ignored.

The libnutmedia has truly lost it.

Years ago I remember being a little kid in the kitchen, and my Mom had on "Rambling with Gambling".

Yep, that was the show. We listened to it every morning during breakfast while we were getting ready for school and my parents for work. Fond memories.

Yikes!!! Look how long it took you to describe the term to me. If I say "buggy whip" media, EVERYONE, INSTANTLY knows what it means. Thanks for giving this some time to answer me.

Fox has barely covered Gore's treason. Barely.

IMNSHO, Fox is not conservative, just bearable.

Al Franken was on Micheal Medved this week. He was clueless about Al Gore's Saudi speech..

While I have no doubt that what you say is true, the modification fits Mr. Err Amerika pretty well.
