A US state's tax on drug dealers has brought in nearly $2 million in its first year.
Tennessee's so-called 'Crack Tax' came into effect last January, reports the Sun-Sentinel.
Under the scheme, drug dealers are expected to pay taxes on illegal drugs and alcohol. They pay confidentially, and when they do, they get a stamp.
If they're caught without the stamp, they'll be prosecuted for tax evasion, as well as drug dealing.

i looked all over the web for any image of the MIssissippi black market liquor tax (where there stamps?) but couldn't find one...
Yep ....check out ITINs for illegals.
Of course if you do, you're very likely to get some rather interesting knocks on your door.

Your post is well thought out and reasoned, but you missed the entire premise of this construct regarding the law and such. The law is a joke and always has been. No more need be said.
Can they still repo all their stuff?
Why should the criminals get not only tax free income, but the ability to pay some taxes in a special manner?
As an full time employed worker, shouldn't I be allowed to pay my taxes annonymously just like the drug dealers?
You already do. It's called a sales tax.
It took 15 posts for someone to notice.
Seems to me the goal here is "mo money," not busting bad guys.

It's not double jeopardy. Tax liability is a civil matter, not a criminal matter. Several people have sued the state but so far it has not been struck down. That's the reason why anyone who comes forward to buy the tax stamp is treated with confidentiality. To do otherwise would violate the drug dealer's right against self-incrimination and would be unconstitutional. This statute was patterned after a similar law that has been in place in North Carolina for some time.
Thanx free ... ain't nuthin' dumb 'bout you.
YOu'd be amazed how many times I forget basic stuff - like how to brush my teeth or my ATM passcode.
And many is the time I have posted pics with < i instead of <img
Could be. I thought it was a local tax on prostitutes.
Wow - you have it worse than we do ... but then it's almost the same thing - having to pay a fee to pay your car tabs in person ...
All right now the problem i see here, is the absolute, and undeniable, hypocracy of the gov. They are knowingly recieving monetary funds from illegal activities. If I went out and got people to buy and sell drugs, then give me money, I would be charged and thrown in prison. Even if I never saw 1 gram of the illegal substance. BECAUSE I am KNOWINGLY recieving FUNDS from ILLEGAL sales. The IRS is doing the same thing, KNOWINGLY RECIEVING FUNDS from ILLEGAL NARCOTICS SALES. This is not a message that the gov. needs to be getting across. If it is a LAW then it is a LAW, it should not be something that can be bent or re-worked to fit the governments needs, If it is illegal for the average citizen, then it should most definatly be illegal to the governing body of these people. Rule by example.
As long as they get the money no one will care.
