SESTRIERE, Italy – Unbent, unbowed and ultimately unsuccessful, Bode Miller said in an interview yesterday he is skiing away from these Olympics on his own terms — content without any medals and impressed by the local nightlife.
“I just did it my way. I’m not a martyr, and I’m not a do-gooder. I just want to go out and rock. And man, I rocked here,” Miller said in an exclusive interview with the Associated Press soon after he skidded off the slalom course in his fifth and final race, completing an 0-for-the-Olympics.

There was a similar article to that in yesterday's Union Leader by a retired sports columnist. I wish it was on line as I would have posted that, too.
This kid lives about 20 miles from me. I'm almost embarrassed to admit it. He's too stupid to be ashamed.
Does anyone know how much of our tax dollars goes towards supporting losers like this?
I don't know too much about skiing but it didn't appear that he gave it his best effort, all things considered.
I don't mind if Budweiser or GM wants to throw money at him but just don't give him any of mine.

Neither our country, nor his sponsors, sent him there to 'rock out' or 'party on an Olympic level' or to 'do it his way'.
It is no shame to leave the Olympics without a medal--most competitors do--but it IS indeed a horrid shame for him to leave with 'no regrets', considering what an uck-fup he is.

Bode is a living testament to the stupidity of allowing sports figures (and entertainers for that matter) to become "personalities" and "role models".
I don't think it will take 10 years..maybe half that time. He is a disgrace.
Words of wisdom from an old coach of mine (Staley Jackson): "Talent isn't enough. Talent is everywhere. Lots of people have talent. More than talent, it takes discipline and hard work hard to win." I never went very far in sports, but that advice has served me well for all my life. Bode Miller has an abundance of talent, no doubt, but he clearly lacks what else is needed to win. He should never have been placed on the team: if he's not going to the Olympics to win, he's only standing in a better man's way.
You are so right. See, the thing is if you want to be "larger than life" you have to party all night and then deliver in spite of it. You can't hack that, you're just a loser. If you want to "do it your way." First you have to do it. What a jerk.
It's unnerving to see this self-absorbed delinquent spout off meaningless words while wearing the stars and stripes insignia.
Bode was raised in the idealogy of the Me-My-Mine political left that passionately believes nothing is greater than oneself.
Bode Miller is a product of America-hating liberals.....and even those without liberal parents are subjected to the control of the likes of NJEA, and PP'hood in our schools.
These lefties proselytize their anti-American religious-hating doctrines of secular humanism, moral relativism, situation ethics, K-12 sexual indoctrination, abortion on demand, and the denigration of American culture.
Patriotism is a non-starter to these America haters.
Parents should demand PP'hood be thrown out of our schools and they should insist the NJEA stop brainwashing our youngsters.
I understand the "having fun" part and I'm not against that. But this young man is a model of pure self absorption. I'm guessing that he will quietly fade into obscurity, as well he should, and will become just a footnote in history.
I had the pleasure of watching Jean-Claude Killy ski back in the '60s. I'd rather watch him again today than contribute to the further delinquency of Bode Miller.

The kid was the best skier in the world LAST year, thus far in the World Cup season he had done nothing to suggest that he would win a medal in these Olympics.
Ski races are decided by tenths of a second. If you are off just a little you won't win. His best result this year was in the Olympic downhill race. He was overhyped by the media. The kid will never be heard of again. I don't mind him trying to make a few bucks off the hype this year was most likely his only shot at Olympic succes and the income that can come from the Olympics.

And just as bad as showing the world what an "All-American Boy" he is, is that his presence probably kept someone, who would have really appreciated the honor of skiing in the Olympics, off the team.
I say "probably" because who knows what kind of guy was waiting in the on deck circle.
I thought it was sickening with the media playing this guy up as the PAHTY boy who gets it done. I was thinking, yeah, punk, show us the medals at Turin AFTER you actually race against all the other world class stars who AREN'T PAHTY boys.
So much for this big mouth drunken cretin. Unfortunately he took the spot of other competitors who wouldn't have been such as a disgrace, and this bum creep puke is proud of himself.

I also watched the girl I cant remember her name who decided to hot dog in the middle of a race and fell on her face. No discipline. She had her chance and blew it.
You watched a lot more of the thing than I did. I watched not a single minute of it.
I seem to recall a similar 'party animal' skier from past Winter Olympics in the name of one Alberto Tomba (Italy).
The big difference being that Tomba 'got to party and socialize at an Olympic level' while bringing home the goods --- 3 Gold's and 2 Silver's over the course of three separate Winter Games (1988, 1992, 1994). All Miller did was party. Fer shame .....
Not one dime of tax money should be given to those that compete in the Olympics or in sports in general. If they cannot sustain the effort on their own, or with private sponsors/owners, forget it.
I have a close friend who spent his whole working life in the ski business and still has a lot of high-power contacts.
Bode is over already!! There are legions of movers and shakers in the ski business that will make sure he doesn't get work or endorsements.

For every clown like Bode Miller, the sore loser women's hockey player who refuses to shake hands with the Swedish team or the self-indulgent NHL complainer crying because his wife had to make her own travel arrangments, there were athletes like Joey Cheek (donated his winnings to children in Africa); Sascha Cohen (extraordinarily gracious in getting a silver rather than the desired gold medal); Michelle Kwan (gave up her chance to win a gold medal so another girl could skate) and the vast bulk of the 213 American athletes proud to represent their country and do their best. Aside from "Miller time", I enjoyed these Olymp;ics thoroughly.
