I agree the article is designed to cause a flap, but we can't control what the idiots over at the NY Times say. Maybe its sort of the same thing?
It's an embarrassing truth, just as what our petrodollars go to support is.
I guess you could say this ports dealie is one of the less heinous things that a Mooseoil regime can do with its moola.
It's very simple: DPW must comply with U.S. anti-boycott laws, or the deal is dead. It's a problem - and an opportunity. I feel certain that U.S. diplomats are working furiously to get the UAE to recognize Israel and establish full diplomatic relations ASAP. That was probably the plan in the first place - but Sharon's stroke was an unexpected interruption in the plan.
Makes me feel better about the deal./s
They are already working with Isreals largest shipping company , I think the other issue is more about politics at home.
I sent the link to the other story to the JP talk back section, but they aren't posting it... I wonder why?
The truth will be that Arbusto will not be able to care less, other than some token scolding, if UAE wants to boycott Israel in their own private dealings. So long as they will not hinder Israel from shipping or receiving to and from us.
Why should Jews support the Republicans after Bush is pushing this ports thing down our throats? This ports BS is gonna bite us in the ass just like Bush Sr. did when he didn't finish the first Gulf war. Remember the result - 8 years of Clinton.
It's a shame Bush Jr. doesn't support stopping the flow of illegals across our borders with the conviction he displays to handing our ports over to arabs.
Welcome to FR, the leading edge for debunking cheasy agit prop.
Congratulations Echo Talon.
I think that your replies have outed the JP.
They have obviously lurked this exchange between you and moi and are feeling a little, how should I put it.......vulnerable.
How does it feel to be famous?
They should just get the facts out, and quit playing games.
Come on now, are you for real? So you claim to be Jewish and now feel justified for 100 yrs of overwhelming Jewish support for Leftist/Democratic/Socialist causes just because Bush now wants Dubai to manage some ports? I dont like the ports deal at all, but it must be done. You need to take the clear thinking pill asap.
I agree with you but your interest in facts is inversely proportional to the size of your paycheck.
That's why I like this site. It's free so you don't owe anyone.
Still again from what you said I think you outed JP on this issue. Otherwise they would have responded.
Feather in you cap big time!!!
Well clearly the UAE thinks the dust will settle if allowed another month and a half. We'll see. People on the street are quite rightly leery about what -- as far as they can tell -- walks, looks, and quacks like a rushed, secretive, unprecented jump into bed with a country that is part of a world (Moose) that would just as soon see us fall under their howling, ululating, throat cutting dominion. Maybe the idea of a strategic alliance with the UAE will sell, but not until it has had a chance to be aired out six ways from Sunday.
BTW I am using 'your' in the general rather than the personal sense.
But... But... But... we need arab allies... these are GOOD arabs... they cooperate in EVERY way! BEsides they'll be insulted if we turn them down. We'll be called RACISS!
I thought that was just a rumor that has been denied by the UAE? I did a Google search and I didn't find any confirmation of the mission's existence, but I did find this second of a pair of Haartez stories on the subject in Google's cache:

UAE denies as 'false rumors' reports of Israeli diplomatic envoys in Dubai
By Yoav Stern, Haaretz CorrespondentThe Foreign Ministry of the United Arab Emirates has denied reports that Israel has diplomatic envoys in Dubai, saying they are "false rumors."
The announcement, made through the official news agency, added that the UAE was committed to the Arab League's 2002 peace initiative, stipulating that the Arab states would normalize relations with Israel if the latter withdrew to the 1967 borders in the West Bank and Golan Heights.
The Haaretz report that Israel had sent diplomats with foreign passports to Dubai was widely quoted in the Arab and Muslim press, including newspapers in Iran. According to the report, the Israeli diplomats had been in Dubai for a number of weeks and their arrival there was made possible following talks that went on for many years. Under the reported arrangement, the Israeli diplomats were working in Dubai under wraps.
Meanwhile, official sources in Algeria and Yemen denied reports that appeared in Yedioth Ahronoth on Friday that spoke of diplomatic talks between Israel and the two Arab countries.
In November, an Israeli delegation headed by Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom is to travel to Tunisia to participate in a UN conference on information.
Let's see, how did that go......."any nation who supports terrorism?"
