Prayers Requested
none | 03/06/2006 | PeteePie

Posted on 03/06/2006 2:06:56 PM PST by PeteePie

I need prayer for my family. My wife needs an emergency root canal. I lost my job last year and work 2 jobs now but have no benefits. We have tremendous faith but we're up against the wall on how to fund this because of the suddeness of the situation. I seem to be in that income area where I make too much for assistance but not enough in real life for contingenies like this. We lost a lot of stuff the past year but are closer than ever as a family. Not a sensational story but I know there are some powerfully faithful Freepers out there. I know God is going to show up in this but your prayers and encouragement can't hurt.

All will be well. The dentist will understand that you will pay him in installments.

Prayers for your wife.

Prayers to your wife. I had two root canals, piece of cake. Bridge work is worse.

I have been in this exact same situation. In my area, the root canals are done at a hospital, not by the private dentist. I spoke to the hospital dental surgery department prior to the root canal and requested permission to pay monthly. They were totally blase about this, so I gather it happens all the time.
Back then, IIRC, the cost was something over $450. I paid it over 4 months, I think. I have done this with an ER bill and a private physician's bill when my husband needed an expensive battery of tests. No one ever blinked an eye.

You guys are not alone. Prayers, of course, for you all.

Prayers are on the way. Just a suggestion, if you haven't already explained your situation to your dentist, I suggest you do so, and set up some kind of payment arrangement with him.

My prayers are offered for your family. My wife and I also have some dental work due in the coming weeks. We are lucky enough to live close enough that we go to Mexico where a root canal is less than $200.

This is already posted at DU.

Some are mocking but some not.

Thanks to all for your support. I feel better already but then again, it's not my tooth. We've only been to 1 dentist and they told us that because there's such a history of people walking away from bills that the root canal specialists insist on payment up front. Dentists will work with you but apparently the specialists won't. We're told it's that way all over town. (Twin Cities, MN)

What's up with that? I wouldn't call this a compelling story. Mocking me? I'll kill the bas#@^ds :-) I don't have time to go on DU and learn what welfare loop holes I might be able to exploit, I have to go to my other job now.

Prayers for you and your wife. We've been in similar straights - it's like trying to get into the house through keyhole, but God always blessed us in the trying times.

I don't know if you're Catholic (the lady that wrote this article), but maybe Catholic Charities can help with some $$..just a suggestion..

Yes, you are a bit far from Mexico to make a trip down there worth your while. I believe a root canal is usually around $1000 anymore. The last two root canals I had done in Mexico cost less than $350 and both worked very well as did the crowns I had installed.

I would recommend that you not give up. Consult with several dentists and see what they say. Maybe someone will help you out.

Prayers and a link to specialists in your area (at least I think it's your area). From the link it looks like they will make payment arrangements with you. Good luck.
