WASHINGTON - The latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll might sound like a broken record, but the tune grows louder as congressional midterm elections get closer and closer: President Bush is once again facing the lowest job approval rating of his presidency, the lowest percentage of Americans who believe the country is headed in the right direction, and an electorate that greatly prefers a Democratic-controlled Congress over a Republican-controlled one.
Yet the poll also shows something else that goes beyond the November midterm elections: A strong majority believes Bush is experiencing a long-term setback from which hes unlikely to recover. Hes losing his grip on governance, says Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted this survey with Republican Bill McInturff. Its now a sense that weve seen the best that hes going to produce as president of the United States.
Despite this grim outlook for the Republican Party, it still holds advantages over Democrats albeit by narrower margins when it comes to Iraq and homeland security. And that could benefit Republicans in November, especially if national security issues dominate the landscape, as they did in 2002 and 2004.
According to the poll, only 37 percent approve of Bushs job performance his lowest mark ever in the survey. Thats a two-point drop since the last NBC/Journal poll, and a one-point decline from his previous low of 38 percent last November. In addition, just 26 percent believe the nation is headed in the right direction, a tie from the previous Bush administration low, which also occurred in November.

Ooohhh a poll. Watch out now...those are like, so true./sarc
The poll questioned a sampling of 1005 adults - 48% male, 52% female.
The POLLS are the big news every day.
Endless cycle: Media writes poll, conducts poll, spins poll, reports poll...
Sigh. Another day, another low.
Why does there seem to be such a subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) celebratory feel to these articles, not to mention these threads?
Well - that does it. I'm staying home this November.
Drive-by Media again.
IF ?????
Did not read...just stopped by with fingers in my ears, to say.....
LAA..LA..LAA..LA..DEEE..DOO..DA..DEE..LAA...not listening!
Looks like he's down to just the people that actually voted for him.
And it certainly doesn't help when the fricken media is running around shouting "The sky is falling"!
Yep, and how many Dems vs Pubs and Inds, probably 50 Dems vs 30 Pubs and 20 Inds.
Using their methods he could fall into negative numbers, a statistical impossibility....and yet the media would be dumb enough to report it.
Watch the movie "The Lord of The Flies". Bush is exactly like the gentle young man who although initially in control, loses everything because of a tendency to try to make friends with his enemies.
This doesn't work, never has, never will.
This movie is a standard standard military training tool.
He has failed to defend our borders, he seems to be more interested in letting Dubai operate our ports than in capturing OBL, he has not acted time and time again to defend himself (and therefore those of us who voted for him) against the barrage of scurrilous attacks by the democrats.
What we wanted was John Wayne, what we got was Pollyanna.
Maybe because the media is hoping that the Republicans go down next elections.
They spent four years trying to defeat him and he beat their asses.
More whining from the Dinosaur media.
BREAKING NEWS: A recently conducted poll by MSNBC, CBS, ABC, Wawshington Post, LA Times, New York Times, etc reveal that Bush's popularity is now 0%. Everyone, including George Sr., Barbara and even Laura disapprove of him. In fact, the internals show that his love/hate ratio is even worse....everyone in America, except Laura hates him.
Stay tuned for hourly updates on his poll numbers.
Proud graduates of our public schools.
Actually, it was a BRITISH corp. that made the deal with Dubai Ports. If you don't like it, take it up with the Brits. BTW, the deal had the company operated only the commercial aspects of the terminals, it wouldn't have owned the ports.
The Dubai Ports debacle will be what costs the Republicans control of Congress.
THIS JUST IN........BUSH'S NUMBERS ARE LOWER THAN THEY WERE 10 MINUTES AGO!!
