*This part of the itinerary is not firm yet, and may not happen. Jim is hoping to make the trip to Death Valley the weekend before we have to leave for Colorado Springs. We'll keep everyone updated on this thread.

Jim would like to meet with as many FReepers in our stopover cities as possible. While Jim is in LHC/Mohave County AZ, we plan to take a drive through Oatman and then go to Bullhead City for supper with Mohave County FReepers. Please contact me for details on when and where we'll meet for supper.

For Albuquerque FReepers: Will someone arrange for a place to meet and have supper, and let me know ASAP?

For Colorado Springs FReepers: Will someone take charge and arrange the required permits/etc., so we can do a "Support the Troops" Rally/FReep on Saturday, April 22, and advise me of the details ASAP? We'll be bringing our own signs.

For Cortez CO area FReepers: FReeper trussell is making arrangements for supper and meet-up in Cortez. Please contact her for details.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them here or FReepmail me.

We are looking forward to meeting a lot of FReepers and having a productive time both at the seminar/workshops and during the "Support the Troops" Rally on April 22. Make your plans now to attend the Rally and plan to have supper with us while we're in your area(s).

In the event that for some reason Jim and Shiela cannot make the trip, I'll be making it, following the itinerary above, representing both FreeRepublic.com and VetsCoR. If Jim and Shiela can't make it, we'll let everyone know on this thread.

Isn't Oatman one of those oldtime "Route 66" burgs, kinda near Kingman?

You sure make it sound fun. And a wise investment to buy in an area that is just being developed. Must come for a visit sometime. :)

That is an awesome drive from Albequerque to Colo. Springs if you like the old west. That is an old stage coach route and you have Trinidad and Las Vegas, NM to stop at-- lots of history.

My suggestion for a fun activity while in Colorado: Roll the yards of Ward "Fake Everything" Churchill and Jay Bennish. Seriously though, did Chief Wannabee ever get fired? Is he back teaching now as Bennish is?

My son and I were camping at Texas Creek campground with his Boy Scout troop 3 weeks ago......visited Ubebebe crater, Scotty's Castle, Badwater, Sandunes, Furnace Creek.

Unbelievable.

Prayers for a safe trip.

Believed to be Jims camper. Keep a look out for it. Also, any case sales of heavyweight motor oil in your area.

What a hoot. I took my basic training at Fort Carson, though I think it was "Camp" Carson at the time (late Jurassic era). My photo for an FR Veterans collection was taken at Carson.

I processed through Camp Carson in 1960 on my way to Ft Hood TX for basic (in the summer). I found out what the word "hot" meant.

I was a lap or two ahead -- outta there in '58 and on to Fort Devens, Massachusetts, briefly, before reassignment to Army Language School.

I sympathize with you going to Ft. Hood for basic, but I can't imagine anything much worse than what I went through. Carson is high altitude so they gave everybody a sort of time-release concentrated penicillin shot [Bicillin] to fight respiratory disease. It put me straightaway into the hospital with an allergic reaction.

From then on, every time I did physical exercise, I would break out in giant red blotchy hives and get another rush trip to the hospital. Not a good disease for basic training! I would explain this to the master sergeant. He would guffaw and make me do twenty push-ups. Then I'd be back in the hospital. I went through basic three times -- probably a record to this day -- and was hospitalized six times, along with countless outpatient visits. In the end, the docs told all the sergeants to lay off of me, and got me out alive. Barely.

Colorado Springs FReepers...this is an important message regarding the possibility of a freep in Colorado springs that Jim Robinson, Sheila Robinson, and Neil E. Wright would like to join. Please contact Neil E. Wright if you feel you would be able to help!

Neil...following is a list of the freepers who claim Colorado Springs as their home town. They have been pinged with this post. Hopefully we can get someone willing to help organize a "support the troops" freep. Maybe several of them will choose to join forces and coordinate this.
