Thousands line Phoenix street in protest march
Thousands of supporters of immigrant rights march to the office of U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl in Phoenix. Many said they were most incensed by what they see as punitive immigration reform proposals, especially one approved by the House in December that would make unlawful presence in the United States a felony.
(Phoenix, Arizona-AP) March 24, 2006 - One of the protesters in a big march in Phoenix says immigrants are "here for the American Dream."
Police estimate at least 10,000 people joined the rally calling for more "humane" changes to immigration laws.
A 50-year-old resident of the city says the punitive measures being eyed on Capitol Hill are "racist." He says, "You're not going to find terrorists outside a Home Depot looking for a job."
The protesters marched to US Senator Jon Kyl's office. He's sponsoring an immigration bill.
In Georgia, activists say thousands of workers took part in a work stoppage Friday to protest a measure passed by the state House Thursday.
It would deny state services to illegal immigrants and impose charges on their wire money transfers.
About 200 protesters gathered on the steps of the Georgia Capitol. Some had Mexican flags and others carried signs reading: "Don't panic, we're Hispanic."
forgot....sure they have rights.
The Right to be arrested, detained and deported.
That's 3 rights, right?
What part of illegal - criminal can't you grasp?
There are "rights" and there are "responsibilities" WITH those rights.......Responsibilities include LEGALLY entering the U.S......
Correct; what you will find is criminals that sneak across the border, and if a common criminal can do it, so can a terrorist.
That is not the object of this legislation and you know it.
Transitory and incidental actions are completely different than the organized, admitted, brazen defying of Law by Illegals advocates operating the Sanctuary Programs.
Why are you pretending the object is something else?
True - now, do you want to criminalize Priests offering "hot meals" to illegal aliens? See HR 4437 (the entire reason for this protest).
Where are the cluster bombs when you need them?
And the Supreme Court has ruled they have less rights then Citizens and they damn sure have the right not to be here.
We have plenty of people here at FR who would not mind that being the object of said legislation, so that's why I am dealing with it (not pretending about anything).
Yes.
Did you know they have First Amendment rights?
Well, you see - we disagree on that. How about Holy Communion offered to an illegal alien at a church - should Priests be arrested for that?
I don't need anything like KGB.
I need for my government to enforce the existing rules.
Black and white pal.
You are here legelly or you are a criminal.
Get real.
Did you know they have the right to be arrested?
Bring your straw man up to them then. Though I note you are trotting it out to other related threads as if you believe it demonstrates some kind of insight.
Yeah - it was also written before moderan-day cluster bombs - thanks for the reminder.
Nope.
"Do you think that could never be applied to serving illegal aliens in a soup kitchen?"
Interesting idea. I doubt that was intended but maybe could read that way. You should ask the Church should lobby to ameliorate and clarify those provisions.
I suspect they'll attack the bill as a whole because they're not so much concerned about soup kitchens but coffers.
cl3 is an admitted traitor who wants to soothe his liberal conscience with your wallet.
He condones and SUPPORTS those who aid and abet these criminal invaders.
Well, I'm glad you draw the line somewhere - others here at FR would disagree with you - that's why I'm posting to make sure you guys realize what HR 4437 would result in.
