We like to think we'd have the courage to do what Rahman has done. The truth is, if we don't have the courage to stand when we have all the power and weaponry at our command, we won't have the courage to do it when we stand naked and alone.
Rahman has passed his test. We are the ones on trial now.
I don't think anyone will suggest this in public. It will be curious if US forces just stand there and let this happen. There are probably a thousand US GI's standing there in Afghanistan...thinking about why they are defending a country like this...and ready to walk over to the jailhouse to spring the guy. I'm sure Army captains are making sure their people don't funny ideas here. I can already see a movie coming out of this entire episode...with Kurt Russell leading some special ops time of retirees to get the dude out.
