In what can only be interpreted as very bad news for the Yes on 82 camp, a new Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) survey shows voter support for the measure has plummeted 14 percent since the last PPIC poll in January, while opposition grew 10 percent. According to the poll, 52 percent currently support the measure and 41 oppose.
Its clear that once educated with the facts, voters understand that Prop. 82 is not a vote for or against preschool. Its a vote about whether Prop. 82 is the right approach or the best use of $2.4 billion.
With little more than two months until election day, and support for 82 dropping daily, were confident voters will reject this measure soundly at the ballot. Click here to read the campaign press release.
Coalition Opposed to 82 Keeps Growing and Growing While More Former Prop. 82 Endorsers Withdraw Their Support
The more organizations and individuals study Prop. 82, the less they like it. In the past few weeks, several high profile supporters of Prop. 82 have pulled their endorsements. First, Senate President Pro Tempore Don Perata (a former teacher) pulled his support, calling the measure another obstacle impeding prudent governance of the state. Then, Senator Tom Torlakson (also a former teacher) pulled his support. Just this week, the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce an early supporter of Prop. 82 formally withdrew its support. Even groups that historically support universal preschool like the California State PTA and the League of Women Voters of California refused to endorse Prop. 82 after careful and thoughtful deliberation.
On the other hand, the list of educators, preschool providers, community and ethnic leaders, business and taxpayer advocates opposed to Prop. 82 continues to grow. Some of our new coalition members are listed below. Click here for a complete list.
DOOHHHH!!!!
Too bad Mr. Big, Fat, Stupid Meathead himself is not sinking into totally deserved obscurity also. What a "liberal", POS putz this guy is.

For the children.
Proposition 81, the California Reading and Literacy Improvement and Public Library Construction and Renovation Bond Act of 2006
Among likely voters
50% Yes
41% No
9% undecided.
Nice tagline. ;-)
I sure hope it gets defeated. Washington State seems to follow everything California does. If it passes I can see our governor pushing this same issue.
Ah, but you wouldn't want to do that. The way it is now the states send the feds their cut and then the feds say they can have some of it back IF they do stuff the feds want. They would do the same with your income. Instead of getting your 50% back it would have conditions on it that would actually lower your take to, say, 25%. You know, it takes a lot of money for the feds to handle our money.
Is the anti-Prop 82 group thinking about suing to keep Prop 82 from the ballot? It seems to me that gathering signatures while (allegedly) illegally using funds for an advertising campaign should be a good basis to either move it to the November ballot (when the investigation is complete) or to disqualify it altogether.
