More Damning Documents On Saddam ~Origins Of War:~~ Why won't Washington get the word out?

The latest in a stream of eye-opening Iraqi documents shows Saddam Hussein's regime was planning suicide attacks on U.S. interests six months before 9-11. Why won't Washington get the word out?

Last month the Pentagon began releasing records captured during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Among the documents is a letter dated March 11, 2001, written by Abdel Magid Hammod Ali, one of Saddam's air force generals.

According to an unofficial translation, Page 6 of the letter asks for "the names of those who desire to volunteer for suicide mission to liberate Palestine and to strike American interests."

Assuming the document's accuracy, this shows that Saddam's regime was not only providing aid and support for terrorist organizations of other countries. It was also planning its own bombings directed at U.S. facilities and personnel.

As counterterrorism consultant Dan Darling wrote last week on the Weekly Standard's Web site, that would mean Russian intelligence services under Vladimir Putin were better informed about Iraq's terrorist abilities than the U.S. spy community.

Though little noticed by the press, during a July 2004 visit to Kazakhstan the Russian president said that between 9-11 and the U.S. invasion of Iraq, "Russian special services and Russian intelligence several times received . . . information that official organs of Saddam's regime were preparing terrorist acts on the territory of the U.S. and beyond its borders, at U.S. military and civilian locations."

This new document, said Darling, "would seem to refute a long-standing contention among members of the U.S. intelligence community that Iraq ceased its involvement in international terrorism after its failed 1993 plot to assassinate former President George H.W. Bush." Darling cites former National Security Council official Richard Clarke's book "Against all Enemies," which contends that the NSC, the CIA and the FBI all agreed Iraq posed no terrorist threat to the U.S.

I think the criticism is not at all of you or other "amatuers" but rather of teh Bush administration for not having the "pros" translate them. Why did we have to wait for you to come along and translate these where the heck are the guys at CIA, DIA and NSA?

"One argument that I received after posting the translation supplied by Laurie Mylroie was that because the translation came from Free Republic, it made it unreliable."

That's a poor argument. For one thing, the translation can be verified by other sources...and once verified, the document becomes sourced, verified evidence.

At that point, the person who blindly claimed that the translation was unreliable (due to FR), herself becomes unreliable instead.

Russia 'warned U.S. about Saddam'

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/europe/06/18/russia.warning/

Friday, June 18, 2004 Posted: 12:46 PM EDT (1646 GMT)

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Russian intelligence services warned Washington several times that Saddam Hussein's regime planned terrorist attacks against the United States, President Vladimir Putin has said.

The warnings were provided after September 11, 2001 and before the start of the Iraqi war, Putin said Friday.

The planned attacks were targeted both inside and outside the United States, said Putin, who made the remarks during a visit to Kazakhstan.

...

"I can confirm that after the events of September 11, 2001, and up to the military operation in Iraq, Russian special services and Russian intelligence several times received ... information that official organs of Saddam's regime were preparing terrorist acts on the territory of the United States and beyond its borders, at U.S. military and civilian locations," Putin said.

One argument that I received after posting the translation supplied by Laurie Mylroie was that because the translation came from Free Republic, it made it unreliable.

Well well well...isnt Laurie Mylroie the same person who is a god to some on this site.

Read the comment again, ace. Laurie Mylroie isn't criticizing FR. On the contrary: Mylroie supported and transmitted the FR translation, which the blogger then published. That was then disparaged by an unnamed critic.

For the DU mantra to be true, that 'Bush Lied etc' the following would have to be true.
Bush during the 92-2003 time frame Bush would have had to collected ALL the US Intel on Iraq. (With 1996 or 1998 to 2000 time frame being the most crucial!) Bush would have had to analyze ALL the US Intel. Also Bush would have been the most persuasive President that has ever existed because he would have had to persuade every member of the UN Security Council and other nations in the Middled East that he was right & their intel services were wrong. Or Bush had to do the collection and analysis for them ! All of that would have been a nice trick for a Texas Governor Remember no Security Council member or nation local to Iraq disagreed as to whether Saddam had WMD, the disagreement was what to do about it. A President only knows what his subordinates tell him. If the daily briefs are in error or dishonest. The a President has to ask how & why ! How did these services become so ineffectual & why did that occur ? It certainly takes time for these services to decay. If a President is relatively new to office its doubtful that he caused. It takes several years of bad appointments and bad personnel policies to render these services ineffective.

To those on the left that say, "well it does not say anything about WMD", do you all really think in 3 million documents there will not be a smoking gun saying they were there, most shipped to Syria, others destroyed and some buried? Also that the Russians helped in this removal, destruction and burial?

There will be many more undeniable smoking guns. I say roll the dice and let's see what comes up.

The left and democrat party leaders showed their hand way too early. They spoke way too fast and were way too loose with their words.

Trust me they are very worried about this and so is the mainstream media. They bet it all and the dice are not coming up how they had hoped.

They need to try and bury this or their entire reputation will be tarnished forever. Not to mention, they are too stupid to start admitting maybe they were wrong. Admitting this in their eyes would mean forever being the minority party and the party that can not be trusted with national security. Yet, taking the responsibile stand now by them would actual be the starting process to slowly regaining their credibility. Like I said though, they are too stupid to realize this, and they think we Americans are too stupid we can not disprove them.

I say keep the translations coming, and we all do our best effort to get the word out. It will come out. Get mad because we are not as stupid as the democrats and mainstream media hope we are.

To quote a true hero and great american - "Let's roll"!

Q: "Why won't Washington get the word out?"

A: Rope-a-dope.

Bush is not on the ballot, so his negatives can go really high, and the Administration seems not to care.

However, if the Dems keep up the "Bush Lied, Soldiers Died" line of attack through the Summer, and the Administration can keep this stuff from becoming front page news, then the Bushies can drop the big bomb on the Dems around October 15th. Right then, the Pres. and Congresscritters (R) can go on the offensive and destroy the only strategy to which the Dems have committed.

In the mean time, we can get these things lined up, but SHHHHH!!!! Don't tell the MSM or the cat will be out of the bag too early!
