:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Afghanistan Calls for Crackdown at Border
(Full Story)

Pakistan needs to do more to crack down on terrorism along the Pakistani-Afghan border, a spokesman for Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Tuesday.

Rahim Karimi said in the news conference that Afghanistan need greater "cooperation" from both its eastern neighbor and the international community in its battle against Islamic militants.

Coalition and Afghan forces have in recent days been fighting fierce battles against Taliban fighters near the Afghan-Pakistan border.

Militants warn of new UK attacks
Posted by: Neil on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 - 12:11 PM
A new group has issued a statement warning that new terrorist attacks in the UK can only be averted by an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

It comes from followers of a leading al-Qaeda commander and ideologue, Abu Musab al-Suri, who was reportedly detained in Pakistan last year.

The statement says that, unless the British public mounts a general strike to demand that troops be withdrawn, further attacks cannot be averted.

"On behalf of all Mujahideen, we swear on Allah Almighty that we will not let our prisoners down; we therefore promise to kidnap individuals from countries that have participated in hurting our brothers and sheikhs," it says.

"If you protest and feel sorry for us while your bombs keep killing our women and children, we will have no choice but to treat you the same way: a death for a death."

Al-Suri, also known as Mustafa Setmarian Nasar, has been named as the suspected mastermind behind the 2004 Madrid train bombings.

It was accompanied by links to a vast library of videos, audio recordings and writings by al-Suri.

The videos are recordings of his lectures delivered to new al-Qaeda recruits at a training camp in Afghanistan before the US invasion post-9/11.

"7th runaway al-Qaida prisoner surrenders"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "SANAA, Yemen, April 18 (UPI) -- A seventh al-Qaida runaway from the 23 prisoners who fled the central intelligence prison in Sanaa February has surrendered to Yemeni authorities.

Daily al-Rai quoted a security source as saying Tuesday that "the seventh runaway al-Qaida member surrendered Monday in an operation that appears to have been preceded by negotiations."

The source said security forces raided an apartment in a neighborhood south of Sanaa where they seized Zakaria Yafii, who made no attempt to resist arrest. He was taken back to the central intelligence prison which he fled 75 days ago in an operation still shrouded in mystery and suspicion.

The source said the police had been tipped off with regard to Yafii's whereabouts and that the information was checked by intelligence agents before they carried out the operation and forced the man to surrender."

Appreciation is always appreciated.

I don't really understand the reaction to this event. That's what got my antenna up. It could just be that there's a bad spokesman mis-stating the facts.

This one is different.

Americans arrested in China raid on church leaders
Spero News ^ | Wednesday, April 19, 2006 | Spero News

Posted on 04/19/2006 1:48:45 PM PDT by The Ghost of JG

As China's President Hu Jintao tours the United States -- meeting Thursday with US president George W. Bush -- there are reports that the Chinese government recently broke up a meeting of 80 Protestant church leaders in the Yunnan province, and held massive arrests, which included five Americans and two Taiwanese.

According to the China Aid Association, the five Americans are from churches in Greensboro, North Carolina. "Among them two are white Americans and three are Chinese Americans. Since the two white American pastors are still inside China and some of the released Chinese pastors are still monitored by the Chinese security agents, their names are not available to the public according to one of the arrested pastors who came back to his home in the US," the CAA claims.

You might want to be sitting down to ead the "official" explanation of how the TSA shirt got into Ms. Sanders' suitcase:

>>>Mark Hatfield, director of security at Newark Airport, told Action News by phone that Debra's luggage had been screened. The uniform shirt, he added, was likely on a nearby hook and fell off.<<<

~cough~ Where can I find shirts that can be dropped into a suitcase and they FOLD themselves?

Update on Atlanta Airport article:

(snippet)
Willie Williams, the airport's Transportation Security Administration director, said a screener notified her supervisor of a suspicious image on the monitor of her X-ray machine at 1:15 p.m.

Although TSA screeners then hand-searched all bags that were on the X-ray machine's conveyor belt at the time, no dangerous items were found. Williams declined to say what the image appeared to be.

But a "ground halt" keeping planes from leaving the airport was ordered to allow security officials time to determine if the image seen on the X-ray monitor was dangerous.

Flights resumed and the checkpoints were re-opened at 3:40 p.m., as Williams said he "couldn't say for certain we had a threat."
