Texas is a right-to-work state, Dane. Personally I hope they employ criminales.

"The state and federal government have bought up most of the land around the border. I suspect that's why we'll never get control of the border."

That right there is called a damning indictment.

Posting from an engineer's perspective:

Assuming there is 2000 miles of border (just an estimate), that's 10,560,000 feet. At an estimated $150 per foot, that comes to $1.584 Trillion. Let's assume half of the border needs to be fenced due to natural barriers, that's still over $750 Billion to do the job. If each donor buys a foot of wall, that will require 5.2 million US citizens to donate $150 each. Probably feasible, but it's gonna take a lot of work.

Much cheaper if we buy the parts from Walmart.

The so called "Minute Men" have become an embarrassment to America and a disgrace to the name they have stolen.""

Don't know where YOU live, but for those of who have had this illegal intruder problem shoved into our faces for over 30 years- STFU. I would contribute to a wall in a heartbeat, and I am living on less than $1000.month Soc Sec.

Hey! Personally I'd like to see us have camps with this kind of fencing where we could concentrate the criminales all in one place. I realize that isn't going to fly (yet), so this is a nice alternative.

Why don't they just build the Berlin Wall while they're at it?

Wow did not take long for someone to bring out that red herring... The Berlin wall was about keeping a population trapped within borders. A fence on the US border is about keeping people who come here illegally out!

The so called "Minute Men" have become an embarrassment to America and a disgrace to the name they have stolen.

I find the fact we are contemplating for the second time in two decades excusing millions of law breakers slightly more embarrassing..

I don't think it'll be that hard to get 5 million fed up Americans to open their wallets. I'm pretty tight with a buck, but I'll send money to build a wall in a heartbeat.

Obviously you are not living in a border state....unless you are simple and just plain dirt stupid.... If you are, I sincerely wish you a speedy recovery....

I am a Native New Mexican, fourth generation. New Mexico is a combination of many different cultures and much the better for it.

Hilarious. (Doubtless the admin. will dig up a dusty law that says you can't build a fence on an international border without govt. approval.)

I'm all for this but it will likely be tied up in court for years over enviromental & endangered spieces issues.

Anywhere you build a significant structure or dig a big trench, even on your own property, can be challenged by allies of the OBL, not the least of which will be state & federal permitting & regulatory agencies.

As for building the project itself, as described in the article, a 75' or so cross section with the trench, two heavy-duty fences and a gravel or dirt road would be the same as building a state or county roadway project and would need to get all the necessary approvals & have the engineering plans reviewed and accepted, construction inspections, erosion control, etc. These matters could be handled relatively easy in a friendly environment but we know many parties will do whatever they can to stop construction.

Good luck to the MM, but be prepared for hefty legal fees & permitting fees and the labor expenses to deal with the red tape.

I suspect this attempt will prove unfruitful. Nevertheless, leaving aside the name-calling, hyperbolic comparisons, and personal emotional responses, allow me to ask a straightfoward question. Perhaps it will help locate the exact point of the not inconsiderable disagreement apparent on this thread.

Do you think a nation should exercise control over the flow of non-citizens into its territory?

Well, you'll need a lot of donors.

2000 miles X 5280 ft/mile x $150 = $1.584B""

Still cheaper than the money they are taking out of this country- both with theft of services they don't pay for and the money they send in cash back to Mexico.

I will send $150 for a foot.

progress will be made that the Feds do not want made.

This goes without saying, but any "Fed" that doesn't want progress to be made needs to be replaced with one who does. We need to start targeting the ones that need to be defeated so the people know who to vote against.

You better think much larger and stop this foolishness. We have MILLIONS of illegal people pouring across our borders.

To hell with the jobs, the American people better pay attention to these 3rd world people bringing diseases into this country that we wiped out decades ago here.

Wonder how the mumps got going by the 1000's now?

How about TB outbreaks that the CDC doesn't discuss?

Think big, little man.
