OBL wants to provoke us into blowing up Mecca.

That would initiate the clash of civilizations, three billion people at each others' throats around the globe.

All he needs is one nuke.

Do you doubt that he can do it ?

A 25' boat can carry a nuke into DC via a local marina.

We are powerless to stop it unless we follow Ann Coulter's advice.

The propeller planes don't have the range. The bomb would have to be in North America to use such a plane. If they could get the bomb into North America, they could put it in a truck and drive to the target.

Small jets cross the ocean all the time, so it wouldn't be unusual. A Gulstream V or 500 could make the trip from northern Africa or western Saudi Arabia and reach New York or Washington D.C.

It can also fly out of a small, general aviation airport where security is not as tight as the big airports.

Agree 100%.

My assumption of the use of a less expensive aircraft ie: Cessna 180 (granted, short range)was based on the fact, hopefully not, that a suitcase TacNuc was to be delivered.

I personally believe that a suitcase TacNuc will be used
for an attack on the US. I understand that a few of these devices are loose out there after the USSR Armed Forces folded up. I understand that the missing ones were stored
in the different "stans" surrounding Mother Russia.

We are living in interesting times!

Would a small gen. av. jet have a high enough service ceiling to get the EMP effect? Seems to me you have to be aways up there to get any kind of decent footprint.

Interesting scenario. I agree 110% with offshore inspection facilities. They should be placed about 200 miles offshore. The should also be placed in such of a way that if a nuke is exploded, the fallout goes someplace where it cannot do any harm. Plus there is a deterrent effect as well. Nobody would waste the time to send a nuke when it will either be discovered or explodes. There also should be backup facilities just in case.

Instead of Congress wasting money on feel good, do nothing but take civil rights away type of laws like the Real ID Act (Driver License Provisions), this money can be used to support the offshore concept.

I think this should take precedence over this pissing contest of immigration legislation and our so-called representatives should be "hounded" on this.

A suitcase nuke is the worst case scenario, I think. An airburst doesn't need to be that high to inflict more damage than a ground burst. Detonation in a tall building would increase the area damaged, although there are only a few buildings tall enough for it (1000' plus).

The Cessna can fly at 12,000 easily. More if you bring oxygen, which is available. If memory serves correctly, you're supposed to pop an air burst around 10,000'.

Anyone with better info, please add . . .

The G 500 has a ceiling of 51,000', which I think is the altitude for an EMP burst.

Really, I'm just taking a stab at the altitude for the EMP. It's been a long time since I had to look at that stuff.

Did a little surfing. Since the EMP effects are primarily line-of-sight, it's tough to see how anyone without a booster capable of hefting a 20 MT warhead to LEO is going to get the effect CONUS-wide.

I think the likely bad guys can, at most, knock out a metro region with what we're talking about.

Oh! For cripes sake! I have been dealing with this crap for my entire life.

Reagan neutered the Soviets. Maybe our current President needs to start 'de-fanging' some of these a**holes? With extreme prejudice.

Scaremongering for profit.

You are, ironically and unfortunately, keeping true to your screen name. Concrete structures, unless built dozens of feet underground will do nothing for the survivors. And even those can not hope to keep those inside said structures alive for very long.

Call me foolish, and laugh if you will, but I have been knocked on my ass from reading this article. You can say this man is scaremongering for profit, but our elected officials are doing nothing for the acquisition and extension of "power."

I have no reason to believe we as a nation will not be caught with our pants down, masturbating to our ignorance.

I wasn't thinking continental US. Er, think globally, nuke locally? Nuke locally, act globally?

Something like that. :)
