A 10-year-old girl was barred from singing a President George W. Bush-bashing ballad at her elementary school talent show because her principal deemed the song inappropriate and too political.
"Dear Mr. President," performed and co-written by pop star Pink, criticizes Bush for the war in Iraq and policies including his stance on gay rights. Nancy Shoul said her daughter Molly should be lauded for choosing lyrics that are full of substance and that the ban violates her daughter's right to free speech.
"If this was a student singing a pro-administration song, no one would quibble with it," Shoul said Thursday. "The principal is just running scared and doesn't want to upset any parents."

A school is not a democracy.
I kinda doubt that.

Her mother should have her ambien revoked for telling her daughter that a dopey Pink song is full of substance.
I would disagree, I would say a public school is meant to have some semblance of democracy, which is exactly why I chose to keep my children out of them. Besides, the whole schoolyard justice element should have been allowed to play out. If the kids at the school didn't like what she was saying, she woulda heard about it, cause that's what happens in public school in America these days
One wonders at a parent who would do this to their child. If a person asked the child for the basis of their opinion, the child would be clueless and wouldn't know a thing, other than mouthing what mommy said. Terrible parent.
I agree. But if it was a pro-administration song I daresay people here would be much more upset. I say it's sad that kids that young are getting involved in politics but she should be allowed to sing it (provided it's not obscene... anyone here heard it?)
I have to agree with you, dead. The mother is also dating herself if she thinks that antiestablishment crap is still new! What a stupid hick.
One comment only: Child abuse...
Agreed the real problem is that a 10 year old is making a political statement. Clearly brainwashed and has no idea what she is saying.
What a shame this nit of a mother doesn't understand that free speech 'rights' aren't guaranteed to a child, but to adults.
If the kid and her parents want an audience, let them rent out a hall. The kid thought it was "cool". No idea if the lyrics wee true or not, but it was "cool".
Stick with the reading writing and arithmetic.
They made her change the lyrics to 'smile baby one more time'. I'd have pulled her if it wasn't going to break her heart.
She' now 16 and I'm glad I let her perform.
Come to think about it, I don't recall a similar story during Clinton's years.......
""If this was a student singing a pro-administration song, no one would quibble with it,""
Uh, yeah, right : )
This story will likely get a lot of play in the MSM.
The world is full of them my dear Paddlefish.
It is up to us to raise our children to be strong leaders so they can lead these lemmings like the one that Mrs. Nancy Shoul is raising.
Bull butter and horse feathers!
How many hundred times have have heard about kids, teachers, and parents bashing the President on school property? Then one principal deems one little Bush-bash song too political and her doofus mother gets her nighty in a knot. Give me a break.
The Shhhhoooooouuuuullllllll Train.....
We'll be right back with the song, after this message from Sulfur8....
