WASHINGTON - Angry conservatives are driving the approval ratings of President Bush and the GOP-led Congress to dismal new lows, according to an AP-Ipsos poll that underscores why Republicans fear an Election Day massacre.

Six months out, the intensity of opposition to Bush and Congress has risen sharply, along with the percentage of Americans who believe the nation is on the wrong track.

The AP-Ipsos poll also suggests that Democratic voters are far more motivated than Republicans. Elections in the middle of a president’s term traditionally favor the party whose core supporters are the most energized.

One thing all those gloom and doom articles contain is the idea that "the Repubs fear a "disaster" on Election Day.

I don't think the election is going to be anti-Repub as much as anti-incumbent.

In Ohio and VA recently the incumbent Repubs were tossed and replaced by fresh blood.

Repub voters DID NOT opt to vote third party or Democrat.

How you spend your money is of no concern to me, nor should it be. I will be voting for a Republican this coming November for the US Senate seat. I will also vote for a Republican for the US House seat in my congressional district.

So long as you continue to vote for a RINO just to avoid a Dim you will do more harm than good. The GOP has illustrated just how ineffective that strategy is by having a majority in every branch.

You are voting for a party majority not quality leadership and as such will see the Republicans lean farther to the left over time. They know people like you will remain loyal out of fear of the moonbat left and because they can count on your vote they will continue to vote as they please while representing you.

So long as there is no consequence to their actions the enormous pressure of politics will corrupt them. Weaker RINO's cave much faster than quality conservatives, Republican or not.

Party loyalists are cowards and will destroy this country. Vote for good leaders and they will represent their constituency instead of their party. If the Republicans want the support of conservatives they have to continue to earn their votes by actions and not words alone.

This argument is used every year. To date, it has gathered all the angry conservatives right back under the republican wing.

Tell me, if all the republicans have to do is float this threat at election time with the sure knowledge it will work again, what hope do we have of changing their increasingly liberal behavior? Why should they change?

An honest question: at what point will you bolt? What do the republicans have to do to push you beyond this "look at the alternative" strategy?

Look at it closely and think. What will you do in the face of this argument?

Yep, he was a disaster on Abortion Rights, Tax Cuts, THE ECONOMY, prosecuting corporate corruption, 2nd Amendment, Faith Based outreach, SCOTUS etc... oh wait... never-mind!

BTW, He has been magnificent on helping those of us devastated by Katrina! When you live it instead of reading it, when you stand toe to toe with the man and look deep into his soul... ONE KNOWS that GOD is moving his actions. dims seethe evil and hate from their god... satan!

Bush comes down here and talks about our "neighbor helping neighbor" American spirit, our incredible ability to rebound so quickly, and he looks for ways to help "US" get back to normality. dims come down here and talk about "who is a fault (this is their main modus operandi), and how horrible and incompetent everyone is but themselves".

Who is talking holding the line on spending... Congress or President Bush?!

Voting for rinos is working so well. I will not vote for someome who is not conservative. Period. If that means I skip a vote of go third party so be it.

Well stated. Many of us here are strong supporters and at the same time rightly critical of President Bush's Socialist spending policies. What many don't realize is that the spending programs Bush has helped put into place will, in the future, help morph us into a Socialist hell. We are already at the threshold of going over the edge to European style Socialism. Just the unfunded pensions alone for state, local and Federal workers is over $21 trillion. Many here don't truly understand just how much Liberty has been taken from the citizens at the local, state and Federal level. Far from winning, conservatism is at most holding even. Many of us are still admiring of Bush's character, his appointments, his leadership on the WOT. But at the same time, we see the cancer of Socialism in many of his policies. Hell, if the damn Dept of Education didn't exist, we would be better off. Government schooling is working exactly as designed -- to produce obedient citizens with little critical thinking skills. Oh.. to have a Cleveland again as President :)

I vote for the Rino so that Bush will have a majority in both houses. I want more judges such as Alito and Robert. I don't want an impeached President. Especially one who is fighting the War on Terror. In 2008, vote for whom ever you wish (run yourself). But for 06 a vote for the Rino is a vote against impeachment and against a Democratic Speaker and Senate Majority Leader.

Look I am a old lady, and I have seen enough to know that I will never bolt. Now! having said that, there are a number of issues that I am passionate about that if the Republicans change their platform on, I might have to reconsider. A long way from happening any time soon.

Hey, don't get me wrong I am glad that he got the things right that he did get right. I just can't see why he has to spend like a drunken sailor.

Do you really think we can afford the huge increases in education spending or the ridiculous medicare drug program? What should be even more important to conservatives is where exactly in the constitution is the US government authorized to enact such programs?

What if scenarios are not a good enough reason to vote along party lines. Voting should be qualitative not quantitative, otherwise you'll pollute the party with weak links that can be broken or will corrupt others.

Truly. Think of all the people today who are on the public dole. Everyone over 65. College kids. Farmers. All the welfare moms. Even the working folks who think the government is paying them when they get a tax refund.
