I'm more upset with Conservatives than I am with George W. Bush

Posted on 05/08/2006 7:04:26 PM PDT by mwfsu84

If I had told you on 9/11/2001 that we'd go four and half years and counting without another terrorist attack on US soil, would you have believed me?

If I had told you that US-led forces would secure Afghanistan in just a few months...something the Soviets couldn't accomplish in ten years...would you have thought I was crazy?

If I had told you that Saddam was gone, that Khadaffy had renounced terrorism, and that Iraq was on the verge of becoming the second democracy in the Middle East, would have thought I was on medication?

Sometimes in our disappointment of this administration, we often forget some of the positives. The economy is strong. More Americans are homeowners. With tax cuts, we're spending less time working for Uncle Sam.

And if you take those benefits for granted, just imagine how much different things would be under a President Al Gore.

So if the president's stance on immigration and spending upset you - and they do upset me - what are you going to do about it? Stay at home? Nothing could be worse for conservativism. Your non-support will usher in more immigrants, higher taxes, and weaker national security.

If the GOP loses Congress, George W. Bush will be removed from office. Nothing would embolden terrorists more. How can we be counted on to wage an effective war when we can't even decide who our enemy is?

George W. Bush isn't the enemy. But that's exactly the message conservatives will send to the world if they stay at home this November.

If you're upset with W. on immigration - write him, write a Republican Congressman, let him know how you feel. It was conservatives who got Bush to change his mind on Harriet Meirs.

I promise you, a Democratic Congress won't be nearly as responsive to your needs.

Good post. I concur. People take so much for granted. I think some people have become adjusted to "whining".

Political junkies that inhabit this and other sites like it aside, the vast majority of Americans have no idea who a Schumer is or what a Pelosi is.

Correctomundo! The average Joe and Sally SixPack get their daily fare from Katie & Matt, the nightly nabobs and the print headlines. Most don't get as involved as us and others like us.

George W Bush will be vindicated by history. And I will support him, despite some flaws, because he is by far the Best the GOP has right now.

Your guy runs up deficits to the moon and you have the gaul to call me a Keynesian? Do you even know what a Keynesians is?

Yep. The guy who figures that government income is more important than personnel income.

Grow the economy faster than you grow spending, and I don't give a damn what the deficite is.

Like you've made some kind of major discovery here? All I was doing was pointing out the contradictory logic of your position. Don't blame me for your shortcomings.

"I hope you would RATHER try to work to get a conservative elected within the established party."

Oh yeah. That approach worked real well with Pat Toomey...GWB and Rick Santorum saved Arlen Specter from certain defeat in the primary.

If the party stayed out of primaries, allowed primaries to occur, then maybe I could agree with you. But in PA, the party doesn't allow real primaries to occur. They quashed the Specter-Toomey primary, they quashed Rick Santorum's challenger by challenging his petitions, and they anointed Lynn Swann as the gubernatorial candidate before any substantive debate of the issues had occurred. We can't advance conservatism within the party. The party machine simply won't allow it. Game over.

Well said but it's lost on the hotheads and dem agitators at this site. Just don't worry or waste time with these idiots. There are enough rational conservatives who get it and understand politics to pull together and ensure that Pelosi and Hillary aren't allowed to get in.

I agree pretty much with what you said.

This is definitely the WRONG time to be trying to punish republicans and/or prove a point. Maybe 2008, depending on what's happening with the WOT.
But not now while we're in the middle of a war and there's such uncertainty with regards to Iran.

Every incumbent must be voted out of office. Every one of them. Man. Woman. Boy. Girl. Democrat. Republican. Independent. Every incumbent must be voted out of office. America must begin the painful process of returning its government to the people. Every incumbent must go. Every incumbent in every election for the forseeable future.

Hell yeah! Make that the only criteria! Who cares if a commie gets in as long as the incumbent is out!

It's not about issues. It's not about positions. It's about being brilliant!

Hello, UGAmbaFSUjd. We've missed you on the old forum.

Let me say I agree with you about the open borders. My feeling is that the WOT is a higher priority right now. A Democrat-controlled Congress would love to humiliate Bush by forcing an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. Such a move would have a huge consequence, I believe in the WOT. Even if we get Congress and the White House in 2008, Iraq would be lost forever.

Then get into the state party and change things.

They only do it because they can get away with it.

Fascinating. Would you advocate the same approach to dealing with al-Qaeda?

Actually I'm just going to sit on my rump come election day or if I work up the energy to go vote it will be for a 3rd party. I won't participate in this raping of America by mexico and her citizens any longer.

I agree with your sentiment. Since Frist is not standing for re-election, there are at least three Republicans running for his seat; two good conservatives and one RINO. If the RINO gets the nomination by some means, I will not vote for him or his 'Rat opponent, most likely Harold Ford Jr. of the incredibly corrupt Memphis Fords.

I am not worried. It is the only idea that makes sense at this point. And, oh, by the way, I believe it is the idea that the Founders had in mind...a citizen government, and not an aristocracy. They never envisioned a ruling class. Far from it. Instead, they set America on a course to free Herself from such. I have to say that we are naive to think that these parties are in any way beholden to the voters at this point in the process. They (and their carefully groomed candidates) know all too well who is greasing their skids and who they must answer to each election cycle. We (voters) get lip service and scraps from the table. We rejoice when our government lets us keep 60 some odd percent of our money. We kick up our heels when the only expand the federal government by a few percent. How long will we take it? From where I stand, I can see no reason why government should change anything. We keep voting them in. So much for the Founders' notion of a citizen government. I say vote out all incumbents. Let them know they will have 1 term. Period. Then back to the private sector with us--and the laws they have passed. Next batch. Then, same thing. They can even start rescinding some of that largesse they have voted themselves over the years (I hear they've got a pretty nifty medical plan, pension, etc. Any of you Freepers still have a pension to look forward to? )
