Iran Declares War

President Ahmadinejad's letter to President Bush, widely interpreted as a peaceful overture, is in fact a declaration of war. The key sentence in the letter is the closing salutation. In an eight-page text of the letter being circulated by the Council on Foreign Relations, it is left untranslated and rendered as "Vasalam Ala Man Ataba'al hoda." What this means is "Peace only unto those who follow the true path."

It is a phrase with historical significance in Islam, for, according to Islamic tradition, in year six of the Hejira - the late 620s - the prophet Mohammad sent letters to the Byzantine emperor and the Sassanid emperor telling them to convert to the true faith of Islam or be conquered. The letters included the same phrase that President Ahmadinejad used to conclude his letter to Mr. Bush. For Mohammad, the letters were a prelude to a Muslim offensive, a war launched for the purpose of imposing Islamic rule over infidels.

Here's my question: Why didn't the prime minister of Israel get a letter like this?

My guess is that radical Islamic hatred of Jews is greater than any of their traditional practices. I think they do not want Israel to exist; they want them annihilated. Period.

And who's to say Israel hasn't received such a letter, and just not mentioned it?

hold onto that by wanting to declare immediate war on "Iran". For those of us over here, we already have our hands full and if you expect us to sacrifice more for the sake of a letter, think again.

The perception is they are already guilty and they gearing up for a war with us if they havent expected one with the Peshmerga.

We don't have the immediate capacity to do it short of a draft and further IRR call-ups and those IRR'ers are not exactly the ones you want in line units or even in the rear.

jveritas, thanks for the confirmation that this closing sentence from the Psycho of Tehran may represent a very ominous development.

I'm sure I am not the only person on FR who will think that "CONVERT OR DIE!!" messages from a psychotic dictator who is frantically working to obtain nuclear weapons is not exactly a matter that the USA can ignore - though the lemmings in Europe will want to keep on their own suicidal path.......

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of it, and I usually listen to Medved. Must have missed it. This bears close watching. - OB1

I expect Iran to attempt to close the straits of Hormuz.
We go to open them back up.
Iran attacks our forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.
We do wider strikes in Iran.
Iran goes after Israel, and wakes up their folks overseas.
No more Iran.

If I have that out of order, someone please let me know. Iran is itching for a fight. I wonder how many nukes they really have? Anyway, its my best guess.

Mohammad sent letters to the Byzantine emperor and the Sassanid emperor

The Sassanids were the kings of Persia. When Omar overran Persia the surprise was total and the darkness complete for 200 years.

Correction, I posted above as though the Iranian psycho was writing in Arabic, but presumably a Persian would be writing in Farsi (?) -- anyway, the issue is the type of warning implying "CONVERT OR DIE" -- whatever language it happens to be conveyed in...........

If you are where I think you are, then first of all, thank you. I am not advocating sending you guys off to Iran. I think we need to watch the mad-man Presidents every nuanced move. He is an Islamic kook-nut who believes HE is going to usher in the Islamic messiah. I think he will be bringing it on. Our Air Force and Navy will be handling the situation in the event, I believe. Be well "over there"....

Convert or die then.

I may walk the path of Todd beamer. I may walk the path of Richard Wurmbrand. I will not walk the path of the Muslim. Death first.

Sadly, I work with many people who don't think that there is a war, and if they do think it's a war, they blame the United States. In case of actual conflict, those of us who love our culture and civilization will be obligated to not only fight the enemy outside our borders but also deal with a significant minority who don't care enough to defend themselves. I'm not even sure anymore whether nuclear conflict will convince those who don't care or who blame the conservatives-Bush-rightwing-whatevers. I mostly fear for my son. I'm willing to die to defend his liberty... and there are lots who are willing to surrender that liberty alongside me.

There have been instances, including in the State Dept., of translators wilfully mistranslating or not translating, however. It's something worth noting.

There needs to be a housecleaning there. And these people are nuts if they think they're doing peaceful Muslims any favors. What they're doing is like somebody nice-ifying Mein Kampf so that you can't tell the difference between it and something written by Rush Limbaugh or Jimmy Carter.
