The poll, conducted by the Wall Street Journal, is the latest to indicate a slump in public support for the US leader as his Republican party heads into the campaign for mid-term elections in November.
In the poll, released in the newspaper's online edition, Bush has lost six percentage points in a month.
Iraq remains the main concern. Twenty-eight percent of Americans say it is one of the two most important topics, up from 23 percent in April, followed by IMMIGRATION (16 percent) and the price of petrol (gasoline) (14 percent).
Only 24 percent of the 1,003 people asked between May 3-8 said they believed the United States was "heading in the right direction". According to the Journal, 69 percent said "things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track".
Bush is closing in on the unpopularity level of President Richard Nixon (24 percent) at the moment of his resignation in 1974 over the Watergate scandal.
It looks like Conyers, Rangel, Kerry and so forth will be in charge of all the committees in Congress in a few months.

Full employment, the highest rate of home ownership in the history of the world, etc. A lot of good things are happening. Yet we're way off on the wrong track and the country's headed in the wrong direction...according to the WSJ poll.
Iraq and immigration are really playing havoc with the prexy.
I still love the guy, but he's got to pay more attention to the conservative base of the party.

Everyone else is forgetting two things that Bush seems to remember.
1. Whether his approval rating is 10% or 90% he is still the President, with the powers that go with the job.
2. He is not running for office in November. The only way for his approval rating to affect the outcome is if the candidates actually running panic and forget that.
In other words, BFD. This could be turned around in a week with something like Congressional Hearings on protecting terrorists from military surveillance.
So, chill.

That is the exact reason for these polls. That's what the media is figuratively praying for. Where are the stories about the last two Rasmussen polls that have Bush at 41% (Monday) and 39% (today)?

These days it seems in vogue to disapprove of Bush. Some of it is warranted but most of it isn't. If anyone can make a comeback its Bush. He hasn't done any fighting back yet since the new team has been assembled (Bolton and Snow. I have a hunch he will let everyone have his/her negative say and come back swinging. He starts Monday w/ the press conference. I hope he follows through. Even though Bush 41 lost his reelection bid he recovered from a 29% approval rating. Maybe it is a Bush thing.
Does he miss out on contractual bonuses if he falls below the Mendoza line?
I think you are forgetting something as well...
1. Powers are useless when he refuses to enforce the law
2. No, but the GOP is, and his ratings will matter come the primaries, as they will be associated with the party as a whole
The President is having a 'Dole' moment in ignoring his base. When Dole ran for President, he said he didn't have to read what his base put in the platform. Dole went on from there to peddle Viagra.

Really, I think the Rove conjob will have Bush emphasize enforcement, sending the national Guard, etc., all the P.R. Talking points that have come out the last week or so. He may even repeat the class-warfare line "Jobs Americans Won't Do". He seems not to be able to help himself. He may be so bad the Union and Liberal elites tied into the overclass might have to listen to their underlings, and the press can't ignore the discontent.
So far the press has ignored the discontent with an alliance with Rove. Rove gave them the talking point to frame oppostion as only right wingers in the House. It's amazing how that meme took hold so uncritically.
World War IV may last longer than World War III (The Cold War) since it is actually a continuation of Islam's war against the West that has run hot and cold for centuries.

Bush did not create illegal aliens, they have come into the US rampantly for years. However, only since Bush has become POTUS has it become an issue with Liberals, media and ridiculous conservatives such as yourself. They are waving Mexican flags now because they know it will enflame and create news.

We are not at war with Iraq, we are at war with terrorists in the Middle East. A situation which no other President has had the guts to tackle and has gone on for thirty years. We are going to be at war with Iran, very soon, which has been the US's primary target. Thank God we have leaders who had the foresight to take Iraq for geographical purposes, among other things.
Should I go on? 29 seems good considering what is going on with the Democrats who have done everything in their power, aligned with the pinko media, to destroy this President. God only knows where we would be if Bush wasn't fighting a war in his own country against his own countrymen.
