The First Entirely Positive,“How do we Help Solve the Illegal Immigration Problem?" Thread
5.12.06 | ohioWfan

Posted on 05/12/2006 5:47:27 PM PDT by ohioWfan

I’m going to try something entirely new to Free Republic………..start a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO about helping to solve the illegal immigration problem, and how we can ‘encourage’ our leaders at all levels to get their acts together.

This is not a thread for venting or attacking (Heaven knows, that‘s been done plenty around here!). Let’s keep it entirely positive……..no attacks on the President and ‘Bushbots’ or the GOP………or on each other, from EITHER side. No threats to ’kick the GOP bums out’ …….we all know that the risk of having Dems in power is too great for that irresponsible threat. NO name-calling from EITHER side……..’Jorge‘ and ‘El Presidente‘ both qualify as disrespectful name-calling. (Perhaps we can all just ignore anyone who tries to turn this into a hostile thread, and punch the abuse button, but NOT engage in battle with him/her). Disagree, but be respectful about it.

What we really need are practical things we can do……with links to key Senate and Congressional offices, the White House, as well as STATE and LOCAL government offices, examples of THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE letters to our leaders that will actually be read, and responded to. Phone numbers, and ideas for THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE phone calls to leaders. What we also need are specific PRAYER requests for you, so that those of us who believe that our God is the God of the impossible can be on our knees in prayer for the details of this immense problem. We need fervent prayer for the President and Congress, as well as our State and Local authorities. And we need Freeper creativity!

We are LEGION, and together, I believe we can make a difference in moving this engine down the track more rapidly.

There are people who are very angry with the President and the Republicans in Congress, and people who still respect and admire the President greatly, and are angry with the Republicans in Congress……..and even some who are NOT angry with the Republicans in Congress (OK……..maybe not..... :)………..but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.

Those of us outside the region may not understand what things are like, but we want to, so if those of you in the affected states could give us more details about how bad this is, without belittling us because we don’t live there, it would be much appreciated. We know it‘s bad, and we care about it, even though we cannot fully appreciate it from where we sit.

There is a great work force of pro-Bush people out in freeper lurker land who have been shoved out of the discussion by bashers. There are lots of us who want to know what’s going on, but wouldn’t go on a standard immigration thread if our lives depended on it, because the disdain for us there is palpable. We may agree with the idea of a guest worker program, or we may not, but we don‘t want to be labeled just because our ideas are different.

So…… LET US HELP YOU, PLEASE! We are activists, and we are willing to work.

Tell us what we can do. Let’s band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments………polite, respectful pressure……….as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens.

What do you think? Can we be pro-active and actually get something done? Can we discuss this without rancor, but with the common goal in mind to rescue our beloved country from invasion?

If you think so, please ping those who will, without personal attacks, tell us their stories, and let us get involved in getting something done. This thread is not to place blame, but to come up with solutions.

This is America………..and we are Freepers! Let’s ROLL!

Therein lies the rub. They really, really consider this their country, if you look at their map they basically consider everything West of the Mississippi as stolen from Mexico. Obviously, they haven't been taught the real history of the land.

When you see some of the advocates on Fox they will come out and say there shouldn't be any North American borders and should be free to roam from Central Americal to Canada and back.

The one guy who is the most arrogant of them all -- well almost -- Juan something -- just wrote a book and O'Reilly had him on this week... I can't even watch that guy he's so smarmy.

What is going to be fascinating is the court challenges to his enforcement. Let's hope they get a Bush appointed judge instead of a Clinton judge.

"Anyone who thinks the dems are not going to run on the border issue should listen to these ads..."

Thanks for confirming that my thoughts on Goldwater are right. The Dims are now all over this issue - - see my post not too far above this one on the Hill and Chuckie show (yuck!)

Not suprising at all, except Hillary can't seem to make up her mind what she is for or against, can she? I can see the Kerry flip-flop ads all over again in '08.

I thin Howard Dean is changing the play book -- actually I think they all changed their playbook last week. I saw Pelosi came out and said "We are not going to impeach the President."

Bait and switch if you ask me, but how many will fall for it because the dems are now saying they want strong borders?

We need to be very careful of the Trojan Horse called the Democratic Party.

I can't think of any election, in my lifetime, that will be more important than 2008...

Agreed! Our folks aren't taking it that seriously.

Thanks for the info SC. I'll need to dig further. I don't know that I understand exactly how the misdemeanor would work. A "civil penalty" doesn't sound very strong to me. It has definitely got to have serious consequences or it means squat.

I was reading the National Geographic article this morning on Hugo Chavez. I couldn't help but hear the sounds of Hillary, ringing in my ears, saying "we're going to take from you for the common good." (Hillary Clinton in San Francisco at a speech with Barbara Boxer in 2004).

Excellent way of putting it Carolyn! And, you are so right - -we must be verrrrrry careful and diligent on pointing out their lies as well as the ones of the MSM.

Sadly, Mexico is a country that has lived on romantic illusions since its founding.

Farmers and contractors are not evil.

No one said that law-abiding farmers and contractors are evil.

Yep, their common good is government and themselves.

Straw Dog.

The key here as Spiff pointed out is "law abiding". There will be a window but this will and is closing. If individuals or companies continue to engage in unlawful illegal employment practices they need to be prosecuted severely.

The American people are not stupid nor unreasonable. If farmers legitimately need imported labor then it shall be but Americans are no longer just going to accept the status quo or that any particular premise about it is necessarily true. You could say we are all from Missouri now because you are going to have to show me.

The problem with ANY government agency has always been, and ever shall be, the entrenched bureaucrats who have made this their career. The "appointee" has an easy or hard time depending on who is at the top. GW's appointees were guaranteed a bad time simply because of WHO appointed them- nothing more.

Homeland Security is the only agency I am willing to cut some slack. For ONCE it has to do with actual Constitutional requirements to protect the country and the borders from foreign threats. It is the ONLY agency that does.

It is unfortunate that the employees of these agencies have turned them into the "ministries" that Orwell warned us about.

I only know, for sure and certain, PERSONALLY, that N.Y.C. and Chicago have these laws and that they have been in place for at least three decades.

OTOH, I have read and heard that other locals have them; however, that is not exactly first hand knowledge. Though I do believe that this IS factual and true. It is up to everyone to learn about just WHAT is really true about the place they live. I suspect, that it may surprise some and make everyone angrier than a disturbed hornets' nest.

Ohio, or parts of it, may very well have these laws/statutes as well.

Yes, it IS incumbent upon everyone to find out the facts and do something at THE LOCAL LEVEL! It's long past time for supposed Conservatives to get involved, at home, and to stop yelling for the federal government to solve the problems that should be taken care of in one's onw community. After all, aren't we supposed to be for a smaller fed government?

Conn. requires TWO forms of ID, to be presented, before one is allowed to enter the voting booth.

You're being childish and not adding anything worthwhile to this thread.

Didn't you read the header? Your post is precisely what was asked NOT to b e posted, since it is not only counter productive, but emotional and ridiculous.
