It's appeasement -- they think we're stupid and will roll over and play dead.

Are there any liberals that are anti-illegals? (The main left-wing argument I could see from them is that they could claim it brings down American wages and eliminates union, high-paid American jobs)

The southern border is not 3,700 miles long...

Weren't, both the Great Wall of China & Hadrian's Wall manned by large armies - prepared for military response and preemptive incursions into the other side?

The difference between the phony fence ploy and the Maginot Line is that the idiots who built the "Line" actually believed it would work.

The lizards in Washington know full well this is just so much crap to get the amnesty for the peasant constituency and cheap labor.

Went by a prison yard while in Mexico. Huuuuuge wall with broken glass bottles all along the top of the wall. I made sure I was very, very good while I was there.

Of course, the Mexicans have learned to be moles so I suggest glass for the footings of the wall, too.

I'll believe it if it gets built before the November elections. I'll really believe it if they add more miles of fencing.

NO guns. Only stations to provide water and food.

c'mon, let's get real here

Amen. I'm sick of the DU-like comments. The only way to win this is via realistic means. This other crap is truly counterproductive.

Oceanview:

What do you think the odds are of a full-length fence?
Also, the Senate has a provision to disqualify those who've committed felonies from citizenship. Is that limited to those already convicted or will it extend to those convicted prior to applying for citizenship?
IOW, a lot of illegals have committed ID theft, used false SSNs etc, and destroyed people's (including children) credit. Will they lose the citizenship opportunity?

Personally, I'm opposed to the amnesty/citizenship stuff. I'm related and am friends with folks who've come here legally etc. Giving illegals citizenship within a few years it just junk when others have literally waited and toiled for decades.

Yep.

When a swimming pool is built, the owner should be satisfied and not complain when the pool has only 2 sides, cause its a good start.

Finally, something to get the ball rolling.

Now let's get a vote passed that fences the remaining 75.4% of the border that still needs closing.

It's a START.

Unfortunately, a start only matters if you plan to finish.

The bill still must go to the House, so there is hope.

Yes, many "Democrats" are opposed to immigration for the reasons you mention...and crime, the load on public services. However, the dem pols are no more responsive to their concerns that the GOP pols have been to ours recently.

That said, I believe the ship in DC is SLOWLY changing course and their own internal polling shows they're on the road to destruction. Only the FAR left and the country-club Republicans support legalization. Pretty much everyone else is opposed...and that's beginning to settle in in DC.

The dems won't get their new voters (amnesty), the CC pubs won't get a HUGE guest worker program and we'll get our wall.

that's my prediction.

The idea of an instant wall is ridiculous. The Border Patrol knows where the fences will work best to channelize the illegals.

Yes. And they know precisely where to put border checkpoints to help channelize illegals. But some RINO Congressman keeps in his home district.

I expect similar behavior from Congress, and yes even some Republicans, with some of the fencing.
