Ward's phony 'discipline' ( Churchill's falsification, fabrication and plagiarism )
Daily Camera ^ | May 23, 2006 | Editorial

Posted on 05/23/2006 11:54:36 AM PDT by george76

Ward Churchill, the pugnacious professor of ethnic studies, insists that scholars who rebuked him for falsification, fabrication and plagiarism just don't understand his discipline.

Churchill is, of course, the University of Colorado professor whose misconduct was "deliberate and not a matter of an occasional careless error," a CU investigative panel has concluded.

The panel also condemned Churchill for "serious deviation" from accepted research practices.

In turn, Churchill and his righteous entourage insist that he's been targeted because of his "alternative historical perspective." Churchill complains that "individuals knowledgeable in my discipline" were excluded from the panel and that he had to spend time teaching them "rudimentary procedures employed in American Indian Studies."

"Had qualified individuals been included on the panel, this preemption of my ability to respond to substantive matters would not have occurred." Churchill writes.

This is a lot less complex than the professor and his dittoheads would have you believe. Sources cited by a scholar should confirm — not contradict — the scholar.

Factual assertions should be tethered to actual, verifiable facts. Prose should be the scholar's own, or credited to its rightful owner.

Churchill argues that such basic integrity is somehow irrelevant to the "rudimentary procedures employed in American Indian Studies."

All who value ethnic studies should be angered by Churchill's suggestion and indignant by the ignominy he's brought to the field.

The University of Colorado's report on the investigation of Ward Churchill's alleged scholarly misconduct has just been released.

Churchill was found guilty of deliberate false assertions, misrepresentation of sources, and plagiarism.

Among other things, Churchill was found guilty of passing off others' work as his own (plagiarism), but also of passing off his own work as others'.

This "permits the author to create the false appearance that his claims are supported by other scholars when, in fact, he is the only source for such claims"...

If Ward would take a look at that "imperialist, sexist, racist" document called the Constitution, he'd discover that it elucidates a concept of fairness that involves a jury of your peers, not a jury of your clones.

His argument, though, provides a nice clear illustration of the leftist belief that there is no such thing as objective truth.

Churchill = Faux Indian and Faux Professor without a single strand of basic morality.

Anyone who was forced to attend a course this A$$hole presided over should sue the University for a refund.

If I had a child who had been assaulted by this freaks phoney credentials in a required class, I would be suing him and the university for fraud.

"discipline"
yea, Ward you're a "disciplined" FRAUD!
and a despicable "disciplined" POS

but don't expect him to be fired...
if they fired him for what was found out about him,
they'd have to fire practically the entire teaching staff!

The sad thing is that Churchill is probably right. Ethnic studies departments probably do have "different" standards of scholarship. Which is why they shouldn't be departments.

"...scholars who rebuked him for falsification, fabrication and plagiarism just don't understand his discipline."

Hmmm. Wonder if he would tolerate the same from one of this students?

His class would be pretty easy to pass. Just do a direct copy from any text on the subject, including the class text, and claim it as your own and you are guaranteed an A.

Term papers could be completed a just a couple of hours -- get a copy of a term paper from last semester and copy if verbatim. Heck, why even copy it -- just get a copy of the file. Then pass it around to everyone else in the class. Should make it easy for Churchill to grade the classes term papers since all will be duplicates and everyone gets an A.

Hey, this isn't all that bad. /sarc

These clowns at Univ. Colorado dropped the ball when they interviewed, hired this POS, gave him tenure and a PROFESSORSHIP WITHOUT A PHD!

ya know you can't BS a BS'er and I won't let these clowns piss in my ear and try to tell me it's raining!

Churchill has been having a homosexual/lesbian affair with Patsy Scroeder, former congresspig from Colorado.

In this relationship, he pretended to be a woman and she pretended to be a man.

He quit the relationship when he discovered hers was bigger than his!

You have to understand the true meaning of those "degrees"

You all know what B.S. means.

Well, M.S. means "More of the Same" and PhD means "Piled Higher and Deeper."

           morphing of the two?
Increase Mail's piece by 109%, reverse it, and the two overlap perfectly, down to the shape of the grass and the position of each rider's feathers, even the position of the horses' legs.

Yet Churchill still maintains it is an original composition.

No, Mr. Churchill. It's because you plagarized other historians "alternative historical" perspectives and passed them off as your own. Mr. Churchill is a theif, period.

Of course, it's okay to do it here. After all, the racial proletariat demands it.

Ward's lawyer got Jay Bennish re-hired as an alleged High School Geography teacher.

Bennish was being paid by the taxpayers to teach high school geography, instead Bennish spent the class time on his personal rants.

It says alot when the teacher's union, the school board, and the fellow teachers approved of the re-hiring of Bennish.

So yes, to your question.

He has a point there. If any kind of logical, meaningful academic standard was used, "ethnic studies" wouldn't even exist.

That's the standard algorithm for passing any PC class on campus. When I went to State U back in the mid- to late-neineties, I had to take the standard compliment of "electives", which was a euphamism for liberal arts classes that couldn't make it on their own merits. I would just regurgitate the teachers' PC spilkish back at them and collect my 'A' at the end of the day.

Times have changed since the 80s. I had to work for my grade.

I have to admit I enjoyed the "diversion" that the electives classes -- Philosophy, Literature -- offered. And my lit classes were enjoyable, too. A ton of reading, though.

Notice what's absent in this bit of self-righteous hectoring disguised as an editorial in one of Churchill's biggest media pom-pom wavers? Any demand for his firing, or even his suspension. All we're supposed to do, I guess, is be "angered" by the fact that Churchill exposed the ethnic studies "field" as an affirmative action sewer whose only function is to provide lifetime employment to amoral, incompetent Marxists who couldn't even hold down a burger-flipping job in the private sector.

This screed reminds me of the phony outrage over Bill Clinton's tryst with Monica expressed by people like Maureen Dowd and Chris Matthews. They were just throwing a tantrum because his behavior embarrassed them; they weren't angered at all by what he did. In fact, I'm sure they cheered his actions in private. Just like the Camera with Churchill.

Perhaps the validity of ethnic studies as an academic discipline should be questioned.

IMO universities will confer "validity" to damn near anything if enough people are willing to pay tuition to sit through a lecture on that subject. Lecture Halls aren't much different than the local cinema multiplex in that way.
