HILL DRIVE FOR '55' ( National Maximum Speed Limit )
New York Post ^ | May 24, 2006 | IAN BISHOP

Posted on 05/24/2006 3:25:12 PM PDT by george76

- In a surprise move yesterday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called for "most of the country" to return to a speed limit of 55 mph in an effort to slash fuel consumption...

"The 55-mile speed limit really does lower gas usage.

And wherever it can be required, and the people will accept it, we ought to do it," Clinton said at the National Press Club.

Like Carter, she also lusts after women in her heart.

The difference is president Carter was a fairly moral person so didn't act on his lust for women.

"Set an example Hillery. Take a long walk...."

Are you kidding? With those fat thighs of hers, it would be like frying bacon given the friction. The smell would be awful.

I think Texas got some special dispensation for a west Texas two lane US highway.

I live in Montana, and in Montana there's a lot of dirt between light bulbs...

The former 55 MPH speed limit was a first for MT; it was formerly a reasonable and prudent speed statute with a substantial fine and points. So our legislature in response to the actions of the Congress; revised our laws and we had a $5 on the spot fine for the unnecessary consumption of fuel and no points...

Pass your stupid back east type 55 MPH law again and we’ll quickly go back to our reasonable and prudent statute with a low fine and no points.

Sammie said it best: “I CAN’T DRIVE 55!!!”

Lets see if I have this straight.

Goobers Carter liked the 55 MPH speed limit and we had malaise and the misery index.

Yep, Hellary you know how to incite the opposition to work against your frigging nomination.

I thought we proved once and for all that this was an inane idea?

Now, she proposes to take away our time, for the common good.

This will make her unelectable:

"She is offering 1970's policies that may have made sense when you had a three speed transmission and a car shaped like a house, but today's modern cars can go faster, efficiently."

It was Nixon, in '73. Screwed up lots of things that year. Moved Daylight Savings Time up a couple of months (sound familiar?) too. This was in the wake of the Arab oil embargo after the most recent attempt to wipe Israel off the map.

The DST thing was, and is, stupid. 8-year-old kids at the bus stops 2 hours before sunrise.

It makes sense to her constituents in New York City, where you can't legally drive more than 50 on the highways and parkways within the city

Yeah, right, like that yellow cab I was in last month that hit at least 70 going down Broadway, then slammed on the brakes, then hit 70, then slammed on the brakes. G-r-e-a-t gas conservation by one of her beloved NY constituents.

Oh please Hillary, do campaign for a 55 mph speed limit!

The old 55 mph speed limit was very unpopular in red states. I'd like to see a comparison of the order in which states repealed their 55 mph limits and what proportion of the popular vote those states gave to Republican presidential candidates from 1988 to 2004.

The bunching of traffic caused by 55 mph speed limits was endangering people's lives. Moreover it's far from obvious that anything other than the stodgiest vehicles were getting max gas mileage at 55. Most are going to get optimum mileage at the point at which valve timing becomes optimal in top gear and that in most modern cars is going to fall around 65 - 75.

Hillary's big speech in Rochester, NY said nothing has been done in 35 years in the fuel market. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Bubba Prez for 8 of those 35 years?? Didn't he pull off some big oil deal with a foreign country?

Just wait for next year. They moved it up another month, we won't see sunrise till around 8:30am.

And here in Indiana; we're on double daylight savings time since, thanks to Ditch Daniels, we now go on EDT when geography says we're in the central time zone.

I hate idiot politicians; repub, or dem.

"Her jet goes more than 55 mph"

She should be required to slow her jet down to 55 mph, preferably at 40,000 feet.
