Senate confirms Hayden as CIA director By KATHERINE SHRADER, Associated Press Writer

After hearing assurances he will be independent of the Pentagon, the Senate on Friday easily confirmed Gen. Michael Hayden, a career Air Force man, to head the CIA.

Hayden, a four-star general, currently is the top deputy to National Intelligence Director John Negroponte.

Hayden, 61, would be the first active-duty or retired military officer to run the spy agency in 25 years. He was approved by a vote of 78-15.

Good. I think he will do a very good job. Still this does nothing to stem my anger at the senate for what happened yesterday.

No kidding that was quick. Remember all the articles saying how contentious his confirmation would be given the uproar over the NSA SPYING ON AMERICANS WHICH WAS HAYDEN'S FAULT!!!!???

"Hurray! Now let's hope he cleans out all the leakers."

Goss started the job, and this appointment will send a lot of left over leakers to the doors in panic.

If he can't stop the leaks and reform the CIA, he will gut it, close it and make it a footnote of history.

The CIA needs to get rid of 75% of it's worthless management and put more boots in the field.

Good! They had best hope that they haven't been calling al Qaeda thugs or getting paid by some Islamofascist group.

I don't see how this could happen with all the hand wringing from the media and some folks on here -- sometimes it makes me think we have more from DU then they have.

This is very good news!

It was quick and a huge landslide Senate vote for the General. Any $inator up for re election this year or in 2008 with half a brain didn't want to be on record voting against this man.

Simply another victory for President GWB....all the while the sky is falling chicken little's in the MSM continue to suggest their *fake* polls show him so low "can he even still possibly Govern".

History is going to be very kind to this tremendous CIC/POTUS GWB. A man of his character and quiet resolve is never appreciated as much while doing the job as he is once he is gone.

I'll bet Hillary voted for him. With her presidential ambitions, even she is smart enough not to vote against someone who would be CIA director under her evil administration.

Obviously, their focus groups showed that most Americans want NSA and the CIA to do their jobs. Only the radical hate America left overs from our Nam Days don't want intel to protect our families and our country.
