Mexican President Vicente Fox is hailing the Senate's passage of immigration reform legislation that contains sweeping new rights for illegal aliens as a reward for Mexicans.
"They fought for it," Fox said Friday at a breakfast meeting with California business leaders. "They earned what they got yesterday," he added.
In a speech to the California legislature after the bill's passage on Thursday, Mr. Fox sounded downright ecstatic.
"Today's historic vote is a monumental step forward," he declared. "This is a moment that millions of [Mexican] families have been hoping for. This is the moment that millions of people have been working for."

Are you happy now George Bush and U.S. Senate? Your FRIEND thanks you for the reward for breaking our laws. Your FRIEND however did not elect you. Your EMPLOYER We The People can toss the GOP RINO's on the ears. Get it done and vote them out. The GOP House needs to distance it's self for the rest of his term from the president and do what needs doing in the way of Conservative Leadership.
My zip code is well represented. I already thanked my Senators for voting no. Senator Talent even gave a speech on the floor in opposition that you can link to in my comments or on the MO board. I phoned my Congressman and told his staff the they are our only hope. Last week we sent him 100 bucks for re-election because he is campaigning on the House's stance on this issue.
Shocking, indeed!
You have to remember that President Bush views immigration than we do. He has a Mexican lady in his household staff who used to watch the girls and do housework. Most of his rich Texas friends probably have Mexican maids, gardeners, etc.
If they didn't have this cheap source of labor, they would have to pay more or, horrors, do the work themselves.
Bush, Kennedy and Kerry have three things in common - Ivy League educations, support for the Senate Bill and none of the three ever had to worry about working a day in his life.
Is that Jorge at the front of that line?
What is G.W. thinking, if anything?
He stalled this agenda for two years never took the initiative and now wants to place this illegal problem on the backs of the people and taxpayers.
No need for deeds of this Godfather.
Everyone wave hello to our co-president Vincente Fox!
Gosh, every now and then I need a reminder of why I vote Republican. Then comes along that reminder.
I vote Republican To destroy the soveriegnty of my own land and diminish what our soldiers have shed blood for. yep, that was the election platform that hooked me in 2002 and 2004!
Vincente Fox is explaining in clear terms why the Senate bill is a piece of imbecility from the standpoint of US taxpayers and US citizens. Of course Fox loves this bill - the USA takes care of tens of millions of his citizens and pours countless billions back into Mexico. Yes, that's win/win FOR MEXICO. Yes, Mexico loves it because it is a huge giveaway to the poorest 10-20% in Mexico from the wallets of US citizens. The Mexican legislature could hardly have written a better bill for their own interests, but this was supposed to be the UNITED STATES SENATE. Why do they look so much like the hapless, incompetent, idiotic tools of a foreign government?
There are two problems with the GOP:
First, you have members who really don't have conservative values, but simply need to be on the ballot of a major party to seek election (Specter, any New England Republican, Graham, etc.)
Then you have Republicans that are willing to betray the party's values for the sake of friends and/or special interests (Bush and McCain fall in this category)
"the latino movement will march in the streets"
I'm not planning on stopping for any of them.
They're at about 1,000 rpm.
What the heck! Is that a real photo??
they'd better be in the crosswalk....
What is the REAL reason the Republicans in the Senate and Bush are taking the position they are on the illegal aliens? If these people become citizens, they are going to vote Democratic, so I just don't get it.
Let's keep the pressure on the House, with letters, emails, phone calls, etc. The House is our only hope. My concern is that President Bush and the Senate will pressure the House members, and engage in "horse-trading", and that the House will end up buckling under to the administration and the Senate.
We have to let the House know that we, the American public, are not backing off from our strong beliefs on the immigration issue.
That picture of Vicente Fox leading Bush along says it all. Why George Bush lets Fox play him for a fool, I will never know? The United States will not keep its culture and identity if the flood from Mexico continues. Too many politicians have sold out to special interest and have betrayed the trust and welfare of this great nation.
