Marine at Haditha: 'I Can Still Smell the Blood'
ABC News ^ | May 29, 2006 | JONATHAN KARL

Posted on 05/29/2006 6:12:03 PM PDT by Marli

Only hours after Iraqi civilians were killed, a second team of Marines was sent in to take the victims' bodies to a local morgue.

Lance Corp. Ryan Briones was among the Marines sent in to recover the bodies, and he told the Los Angeles Times he is still haunted by what he saw, including a young girl who was shot in the head.

"[The victims] ranged from little babies to adult males and females," Briones told the newspaper. "I can still smell the blood."

Briones says he and another Marine were told to photograph the bodies. Military officials say those photos — which they say show people shot at close range in the head and chest — clearly contradict initial reports that the civilians were killed by a roadside bomb.

I'm not seeing a coverup as much as I'm seeing the jihadis pulling their standard "let's start a firefight, massacre a bunch of civilians using American weapons and blame it on them.".(They tried it in the mosque in baghdad, but there were too many witnesses.).

There is no 'smoke' here. It's a standard tactic used by an enemy that knows our press, and many politicians, will buy it and relieve the intense pressure they are getting.

It was illegal for this little Jughead to talk about this to the press. Hopefully, if he really is in the Marines, they've carted his goatsmelling ass off to the brig.

24 innocent people may have been killed, and you're worried that one of the Marines recovering the bodies talked to the press?

Them's screwed up priorities there, bud.

The MSM and leftwing will use it to demoralize US support for the war by arguing that our troops are too stretched out and stressed out by GWB that some of them finally snapped.

Any idiot that argues this way obviously has NO idea about the military or military history.

The military is trained to break things and kill people. It's what they do.

I don't get mad at a table saw because it put a gash in my hand.

It's an anecdote

Tell that to the dozen Marines who may be prosecuted for various crimes, including murder.

Whoever was in command of this unit is in serious, serious trouble.

How about having someone that wasn't there talking to the press could screw up the inevstigation, or do you even care if we have an investigation at all?

Let's just try them in the press.

Sorry, he isn't an eyewitness to the incident, just its aftermath.

This is an old VC trick. They'd go into villages and wipe them out. Made it look just like the U.S. military did it.

This is worth repeating....

"if" ... "may" are two good GD reasons why nobody should be specualting, and that includes you. Let the facts come out and justice take it's course. Condemning anybody right now does nothing but aid the enemy

My husband is sick and we've spent two days watching old (and new) WWII movies being played because of the Memorial Day Weekend.

There have been instances in the movies where troops have used bad judgement and killed innocent civilians in wartime; this war has seen less of that than any other war.

We have people in this country who have in a moment of rage killed someone, and the leftists have come to their defense if the death penalty is invoked. It's a shame they can't find it in their hearts to at least wait until some facts come out before jumping all over them, but the MSM has a malignant need to make people hate the war and our military.

The Stone-age press continues to try this case before the trial. This guy has no idea who shot who or what the circumstances were. He is a mortician.

If ABDNC is wrong about these soldiers there will no price to pay from the 4th estate. They are their own corrupt cops.

Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters

If that's what happened (and I pray it is) a lot of people are going to look stupid, including some around here....

Let the military handle the investigation, they will get to the bottom of it and until then these Marines are innocent...

That is very possible it was done by the enemy.

It IS like vietnam with the MSM...I do not think that necessarily what the Marine said to the press was "bad"...He described a scene he saw at that moment. I would say the press got to him and he is very vulnerable right now, so I am not blaming him now.

I blame the MSM. so far, this story could go easily one way or another. But the 5th column here in the states, will try their darndest to make it bad.

You're not paying attention to all the clues being dropped by Pace and others in high command.

Since anyone who raises questions about this incident gets banned or is driven off the thread by those who simply refuse to consider that something terrible happened here, I'll oblige you and leave.

And I'm not proud of men who shoot other people in cold blood. This was calculated. If there were insurgents present, is it not curious that not a single Marine lost his life or was wounded other than the Marine killed by the IED?

So you've convicted the Marines too. Bud? If that "marine" was in my unit, he'd be in the brig. Talking to the press about something he knows absolutely nothing about is chicken----. Dat you Jesse?
