A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Big Rodent Fouls Donks'
Front Porch with Droppings

According to the New York Times, in recent weeks "a handful of once-safe Republican Congressional seats have come into play, and other Republican incumbents are facing increasingly stiff re-election battles, according to analysts, pollsters and officials in both parties. The change amounts to a slight but significant shift in the playing field, and a potentially pivotal change in the dynamics of this midterm election."

According to the Washington Post, a growing number of "once-safe (House) districts are turning into potential problems (for the GOP). Incumbent poll numbers have soften. Margins against their Democratic opponents have narrowed. Republican voters appear disenchanted. The Bush effect now amounts to a drag of five percentage points or more in many districts."

And, according to the Associated Press, "Republicans are three steps from a November shellacking." With less than six months to go, "most Democrats and Republican strategists say the first two elements are in place for now -- a national, anti-incumbent mind-set -- and all signs point to the third," the third being voters viewing the midterm elections as a referendum on President Bush and the GOP-led Congress."

To avoid looking one-sided, the AP titled the article, Democrats eye November landslide. Ron Fournier, an expert at counting chickens before they never hatch, wrote the piece. Even in a crowd, you can easily spot Ron Fournier. He's the one dressed up as Baghdad Bob.

So, Americans are disenchanted with Republicans over immigration, Iraq, and corruption scandals in Congress. So Americans just can't wait to turn the country over to the party of blanket amnesty for illegals, surrender in Iraq and exemplary political reformers like William Jefferson, Alan Mollohan, Maxine Waters, John Conyers. And blazing foreign policy intellects like Susan Saradon and Michael Moore.

Pollsters claim that about 70 percent of Americans think the country has swerved in the wrong direction, and want the party of Patrick Kennedy at the wheel.

And if the 'Crats seize control of the House this November, there'll be overwhelming pressure from the party's psychotic base to implement their bold and visionary 3-part plan to make America safe: (1) Impeach Bu$Hitler, (2) impeach Darth Cheney, (3) impeach Bu$Hitler.

Bush gets impeached for "spying" on al-Qaeda-Americans. Darth Cheney for having a hunting accident. And for the Iraq war. And for "outing" Valerie Plame, the domestic spy.

With Dumbya and Cheney locked up at a naval brig, no longer a threat to world peace, Pelosi becomes only the second woman president! (Geena Davis was the first, of course, but women-hating ABC network pulled the plug on her.) Yet, a funny thing happened on the way to Bush's impeachment: Freezergate.

Putting the kibosh on the donk 'strategy' of running against the 'GOP Culture of Corruption' to win back Congress, Democrat Rep. William Jefferson is now the poster boy for Washington political corruption.

Just when you thought the jails were already filled with Democrats. Which is why Hillary Clinton and John Kerry want to restore voting rights for felons. Expands the Democrat base.

The Louisiana Congressman was taking bribes from a technology company to help it obtain business deals in Africa. It's part of Jefferson's touching 'Leave no crooked tech company behind' plan.

He was videotaped by the feds last July accepting $100,000 in marked $100 bills in a sting operation. The FBI searched Jefferson's home a month later and found almost all of the cash there. The idiot had wrapped $90,000 in foil, pressed them into plastic food containers, then stuffed it all in his freezer. Of course, if the idea was to avoid jail and keep money and documents in a safe place, he could've stuffed them into Sandy Berger's pants. (In a related development, a search of Sen. Harry Reid's freezer turned up 90,000 ringside boxing tickets.)

The Justice Department subsequently issued subpoenas for certain documents, but Jefferson failed to produce them. The subpoenas were issued last September.

Armed with a warrant from a federal judge, an FBI team two Saturdays ago conducted a search of Jefferson's Congressional office. The media called it a "raid," with Dick Cheney storming in with guns blazing, backed by a fierce elite detachment of jackbooted Halliburton executives.

What the media called a "raid" consisted of several FBI agents dressed in suits calmly entering Dollar Bill's office. Upon learning of this unprecedented use of force, House Speaker Dennis Hastert and Rep. Pelosi expressed their "outrage," blasting the illegal invasion of Congress, demanding an immediate pull-out. Since the search wasn't completed in a few minutes -- it stretched on for hours -- the New York Times started calling it a quagmire.

Congress holds hearings to search baseball players' hair follicles, urine, saliva and blood for steroid use, but Congress claims Congress can't be searched. Against the Constitution. It's "outrageous" to treat a criminal suspect like a criminal suspect if the criminal suspect is a member of Congress. Everyone is subject to the rule of law, except lawmakers. Says so right there in the "Speech or Debate" clause. Apparently, it's there to protect us against the tyranny of one branch of government holding another branch accountable. Gives the legislative branch the independence to commit major felonies.

Funny -- my copy of the Constitution says House and Senate members "shall in all cases, except treason, FELONY and breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses . . ." It's missing the part which says bribery, kickbacks, hiding incriminating evidence and ignoring subpoenas for months aren't felonies -- just part of official legislative business, protected by the "Speech or Debate" clause. I'll keep checking, though.

Will the distinguished gentlefelon from Louisiana yield?

No -- Jefferson insists he won't step down. But if he does, he'll probably cloak it in some moving statement like, 'I'm leaving to spend more time with my crime family.'

Anyway, that's...

My Two Cents...

Actually, I'm waiting for Jefferson to admit he's a "gay" American.

If it worked for a white man in New Jersey, it should work for a black man from Louisiana.

Rush said that Hastert and the others in the House were upset at Bush for not following their more conservative agenda.

I don't see how being more stupid and more disconnected is more conservative, but that's just me.

Just before going on a commercial break, Rush said "the House Republicans are fit to be titled."

It's clear he meant to say they were fit to be tied, and that he thought they were entitled to think that way, but I thought that was an interesting mental shortcut.

Beaten silly as a child by a white man wearing a Bush mask, no less.

Don't ask how... Bush has a time machine.

I agree. I don't see how the House can be upset with Bush for not being more conservative. When Bush was pushing for other conservative points, the House didn't follow his lead.

Perhaps Hastert is confused over which of them is President... and thus leader of the party.

I disagree with the President often enough, but I trust him a lot more than I trust most of the dweebs in Congress.

"Understand they are fiesty!"

I saw film of one running down and injuring a leopard which was after some others of its group.

Feisty, yes. Or maybe he was just a "Gore supporter."

It's certainly an example of very short-sighted thinking on the Congressional side, especially in an election year.

Maybe Hastert was simply wearing the wrong glasses when he examined the problem (Teddy Kennedy's?)

I will leave to your own unpleasant speculation how Denny might have inadvertently exchanged glasses with Teddy.

I think part of the problem is that Bush is a poor negotiator. He doesn't play the game the way Congressmen and Senators are used to playing the game.

The President doesn't take an extreme position as his initial bargaining point. He always starts with a compromise. The Democrats can't fall in and support the compromise position because that would be agreeing with their arch enemy, and their base would hate them for it. The Republicans can't accept the compromise because they weren't given a chance to posture and take advantage of a more extreme right wing position first, so giving into the compromise would upset the conservative base. The President can't accept anything but his compromise proposal because it already contains the most he's willing to give up and the least he's willing to accept.

What he needs is a master negotiator. That should please the right, and sucker the left, while succeeding in obtaining moderate results.
