Despite a blizzard of negative press coverage, Ann Coulters new book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism has surged all the way to No. 1 on Amazon.coms list of bestsellers -- just two days after its official publication. [Editors Note: Get Anns book much cheaper than Amazon! Go Here Now]
On Wednesday Hillary Clinton lashed out at Coulter for what she called her "vicious, mean-spirited attack on a group of outspoken 9/11 widows, whom the conservative television pundit described as "self-obsessed, and said Coulters book should have been called "heartless.
The media attack on Coulter began Tuesday with her first book interview on NBCs Today Show. Host Matt Lauer claimed that Coulter had cruelly criticized several 9/11 widows.
But criticism from the establishment media hasnt hurt sales of Coulters book at all.
In "Godless, Coulter argues that in addition to being a political movement and philosophy, liberalism is a twisted religion whose deity is itself and she details liberalisms war on traditional religion and God. All of Coulters previous books have also been New York Times bestsellers: "How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must), "Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right, "Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism and "High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Case Against Bill Clinton.
But ... If widows exploit public sympathy, pose and preen for the cameras, use their ersatz "grief" (and I think it is phony) to vault them into some political consultancy...
These harpies do their husbands no honor, and they give every appearance of enjoying their celebrity widowhood to the hilt. That often happens after a foray into the limelight--the "star" disease. Ann dared to make the bald observation of what many were thinking--and the Girls won't be able to go to another celebrity "appearance" without finding themselves on the defensive.
Ann understands rhetorical warfare, and she hit a bull's eye with her blunt salvo. "Jersey Girls" may turn into a neologism, like "blue dress."
This self-righteous tear you're on looks like smoke from another fire.
"You know, you are starting to come off as come kind of obsessive Carrie Nation here, all over a single rude remark. There's no rule book for widows these days--no requirement for a year of black, a year of grey, etc etc."
If my questions seemed "obsessive" to you it is because you didn't understand why I was asking them.
The person I was talking to (not you btw) seemed to present himself as knowledgeable on how grieving widows ought to behave and how they ought not to behave.
I happen to know grieving widows who were dating within a year and many were certainly married and "out partying" within 5 years. So - according to his odd standard - women who act like this are open to personal attack.
That is why I asked those questions.
"Ann dared to make the bald observation of what many were thinking--and the Girls won't be able to go to another celebrity "appearance" without finding themselves on the defensive."
Really? Were you wondering if these women's husbands were going to leave them? I doubt many - if any- people were wondering that.
Were you wondering - too - if maybe they ought to pose naked?
"This self-righteous tear you're on looks like smoke from another fire."
Self righteous? But you are the one who is trying to justify personally attacking others with senseless insults - not me.
Since you think you have me figured out...what "fire" do think my smoke is coming from? hmmmm?
"I'll continue cheering on conservatives who remain above the cesspool."
After reading your post I thought about all those box cars headed for the slaughter houses..... All the occupants, according to your views, were just good, orderly passengers "remaining above the cesspool."
I'll continue cheering those who resist, be it from a cesspool or a lilly white pedestal.
I am not suggesting we not challenge, criticize, critique, debate.
When we debate intelligently we certainly are not heading to the slaughterhouse.
