The point is, why not protect women from something that might happen to them through no fault of their own?

Where did I say I had any problem with people taking the vaccine if they wanted to? My beef, and that of the author of this article, is with how the vaccine is being promoted as a "cure" for HPV and cervical cancer when it is neither of those things. It gives 4-year resistance against some strains of HPV.

I know that the National Cancer Institiute is NOT touting it as a cure for cervical cancer, although HPV-16 (one strain the vaccine fights) is present in more than 50 percent of cervical cancer cases. The NCI also notes all of the other limitations in this article.

This guy must be an optimist, there is no doubt this will be mandatory with jail time for parents who refuse.

there were some local talkshow hosts suggesting that not getting this vaccine should be a criminal offense.

Well some are mandatory for school attendance... Especially vaccines against measles, polio, pertussis and rubelle...

Why should you be allowed put other people's children at risk?

For the same reason that some support only abstinence as acceptible sex-ed, they think EVERYONE shares their beliefs....Usually the sheltered kids are the first to experiment when they get out of the nest. Kind of ironic.

NO vaccine is 100% effective and many need boosters every so many years... tetnis for example... so I'm still not following your objections.

They are NOT "mandatory".

Every state has at least medical exemptions. Most have religious exemptions, and many have philisophical exemptions.

Maybe you would change your tune if you could see my 21 year old nephew who was perfect before his DPT shot, and is now so severely brain damaged that he can't talk, and will have to be cared for for the rest of his life...but somehow, from your hateful comments, I doubt you care that some children's lives are endangered by vaccines.

That's a blanket argument if I ever saw one. If "inculturation" in public schools means exposing my kids to sexual libertinism, drug culture, and secularism, then I guess I will just "shelter" my kids!

Actually, I see a lot of lawsuits coming for people who refuse to vaccinate their kids...

I know that if one of my children had caught an illness like measles from a non-vaccinated kid, I would have sued the parents!

I'll say it then. It's too bad Euteneuer can't get cervical cancer himself. What an idiot.

Uh, that wasn't the main point. The main point is the false advertising of this vaccine.

I haven't heard any false advertising. There's a lot of hysteria in this article that appears to be complaining that it doesn't prevent every form of STD or every type of cancer. It hasn't claimed to. The vaccine has been touted to prevent one particular type of STD that causes cervical cancer. No more, no less.

Want to explain how you figure that? Please make sure you use sound examples, not "my sister in laws kids got whooping cough because one of the kids that go to their school is unvaccinated." because after all, if vaccinations worked and actually gave immunity that wouldn't be an example. So go ahead I'll wait.

And maybe you should stop your tune if you saw children brain-damaged by measles... Or when you understand how many abortions are done because the mother caught rubella while pregnant...

This isn't a matter for emotions but for statistical facts... Emoitions will kill and damage more children than reason...

But vaccines against non-treatable illnesses, like cervical cancer, are more important...

Cervical cancer is highly curable, regular checkups and early treatment is the key.

Again, I'm not against this vaccine. But vaccines are NOT the cure-all you seem to be sure they are.

Fr. Thomas J. Euteneuer might be playing a different tune if he thought his wife or daughters were at risk.

Some vaccines take time to become effective... If you are expeosed to the virus during this period, you can get an attenuated form of the illness... The more children are unvaccinated, the higher the chances that they will catch the illness and expose the vaccinated kids while they are not fully protected...

First of all, good luck proving where your kid got the disease. Secondly, from a question that was asked earlier that you never responded to: How can a non-immunized child put an immunized child at risk?
