This is the liberal response to the WMD find: "Santorum recycles bogus Iraq WMD claims"
BTC News ^

Posted on 06/22/2006 4:50:29 AM PDT by ChrisFelice1

Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has been making the rounds claiming that the US has in fact discovered banned weapons in Iraq. The claims are based on the continuing sporadic appearance of pre-Gulf War I munitions containing variously disintegrated chemical weapons, and the Pentagon has said that the claims are crap: the munitions in question, mostly artillery rounds, are unusable and have been for years...

Not sure how much a threat they are. We would have to have experts tell us that. Doesn't matter. WMDs certainly existed. Therefore the statements the left makes that "there were no WMDs" is a lie and incorrect.

Well, that is a great side point... We know Sadam had them, the US sold them, Sadam used them against Iran and the Kurds. But with the condition of the weapons found, it's like finding a straw and a spitwad.

IMHO, There has to be another stockpile. Santorium shouldn't be pressing this as proof to justify the war.

So, you would take your family into a room and open all the containers and shells? If they are harmless, why not?

Binary shells don't degrade. That is the point of binary chemical munitions. Comprende?

Mustard gas (HD) doesn't degrade quickly either. There are still mustard gas munitions being found from WW2 and they will tune you up just as quick as newly minted ones.

Non binary Sarin does degrade but the rate at which it degrades is dependent on the manufacturing process and additives.

The relationship between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda never degraded. Saddam love of chem weapons stemmed from his wars with Iraq, he was a committed CBR man. He used chem weapons to terrify his own people.

Inconvenient facts to left loons but facts none the less.

Ok, apparently you haven't read the report. The Agents found have degraded to the point to where they are not harmfull..."Not able to be used for thier intended purpose".

I am not arguing the point that Sadam had or didn't have them. I am saying that this is pretty much fodder for the DEMS, sure Sadam had them.. not denying that... but what he had may have bee effective in the early 90's but not today.

I am starting to think this isn't the WMD evidence people have been waiting for. In fact, the report by the Iraq Survey Group has already acknowledged the existance of inert chemical weapons in Iraq:

While a small number of old, abandoned chemical munitions have been discovered, ISG judges that Iraq unilaterally destroyed its undeclared chemical weapons stockpile in 1991.

You:
The Agents found have degraded to the point to where they are not harmfull..."Not able to be used for thier intended purpose".

Santorum:

The following are the six key points contained in the unclassified overview:

• Since 2003 Coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent.

• Despite many efforts to locate and destroy Iraq’s pre-Gulf War chemical munitions, filled and unfilled pre-Gulf War chemical munitions are assessed to still exist.

• Pre-Gulf War Iraqi chemical weapons could be sold on the black market. Use of these weapons by terrorists or insurgent groups would have implications for Coalition forces in Iraq. The possibility of use outside Iraq cannot be ruled out.

• The most likely munitions remaining are sarin and mustard-filled projectiles.

• The purity of the agent inside the munitions depends on many factors, including the manufacturing process, potential additives, and environmental storage conditions. While agents degrade over time, chemical warfare agents remain hazardous and potentially lethal.

• It has been reported in open press that insurgents and Iraqi groups desire to acquire and use chemical weapons.

Uh, WMD = Weapons of MASS Destruction.

The material in question cannot be used for thier intended purpose = MASS DESTRUCTION, therefore they are not.

harmfull to a minute (not MASS) amount of people is probably the best way to sum it up.

Yes, we found items that would have been categorized as WMDs, but in the late 80's.

I am sure Lil Kim in N. Korea wants them too... and that statement means what?
