PROVO, Utah -- Rep. Chris Cannon is a loyal Republican with the endorsement of the National Rifle Association and a 100 percent rating from the American Conservative Union. He is unmarred by the ethical scandals that have roiled Washington in this election season....
Tuesday's matchup in Utah is viewed as a bellwether for how immigration issues play out nationwide. "If you want to throw the bums out, you can do that," Mr. Cannon said during his debate with Mr. Jacob earlier this month. Responded Mr. Jacob: "When you talk about throwing the bums out, I'm just working on one right now."

I did you must have missed it.
But let me put it in personal terms. My DIL's mother was born in Mexico. Her parents brought her here illegally when she was three years old. She is now 49 and a mother of two children. She is an employee at the University. She put her oldest daughter through college, her youngest is in high school. She owns a home, a car, pays her taxes and has insurance.
Now, if she should leave the country to apply for reentry, don't you think she should be eligible for a fastpass? Maybe not....just throw the bum out...what do you say?
Or should we just grant her amnesty. Just like that. Automatically along with all the other illegals in the country regardless of time spent or character. Is that somehow a better plan? That's Cannon's plan. It seems to be the Republican plan. It makes me sick!
Describe how that's not amnesty?
I did you must have missed it.
No you didn't. You're missing it.

Look, you're only fooling yourself. It's still amnesty regardless of whether I support the Jacob plan or not. Why don't you stop with the rationalization on why it isn't an amnesty and just come out proudly (and accurately) and say that it's a type of amnesty and that I (colorcountry) support it.

Transcript of Alan Keyes' speech in Provo on Wednesday...
Yep, they're all cracking Satan jokes and laughing.
Can't wait for Tuesday.
Hmmm, What? you don't even have a suggestion and you want to sit back a pick apart a "suggestion" and call it amnesty and use it as a weapon against this fine, viable candidate, when all Cannon is offering is complete amnesty.
Do you see the holes in your logic. I guess not, it's pretty hard to see when you have your eyes wide shut.
It is not amnesty. Amnesty means FREE PARDON, unwarrented. By leaving the country and complying with the law some of these people can show their good will and intentions, they pay a price and comply.
When someone performs a penance for debt, it is not called amnesty, it is called compliance and release. It is something criminals do every single day in the US. They go to jail, pay a fine, do community service, and because they are released from the debt to society, becuase of an action they perform, it isn't amnesty.
When a govenmental hand is waved over you and all is forgiven, regardless of any action on your part - THAT is amnesty. So why don't you guys stop with the smear campaign and admit that nobody out there has a better plan.
Over, and over again Jacob has outlined the terms of compliance.
1 You must have lived here for an extended period of time (10 to 20 YEARS)
2 You must be able to show you have been a good citizen
3 No criminal history, paid taxes, gainfully employed
4 Comply with the terms of agreement by registering with the government and returning to your home country for reenty.
What is the fine and punishment now for illegal aliens? Isn't it a misdemeanor? I don't know? Perhaps someone out there can tell me. Okay then, so make them pay the fine if it makes you feel better, then register, go home and come back to their homes, jobs and families....Not amnesty in any way shape or form, but payment to society.
Hey, Fast Pass sounds like a pretty viable plan to me....not crazy at all. Maybe that's why Cannon supporters had to dig for satan and gambling (once at a rodeo.) fffffftttttttt Puhlease.
Thanks for the link Antiguv, I was repeating what I had heard about Cannon's financials.
I don't know how you spend 50 Million dollars in ten years, but I'm just a bumpkin, 3rd District, Utahan....plain and simple.
Unelected this SOB. Are you proud of the gangs, drugs and crime too? Are you proud of the low wages? Are you proud of the overburdened social servives? This fool does not deserve one vote.
I see, so under Jacob's plan, illegals get to take a short trip home Mexico before getting amnesty. Brilliant.
You keep leaving out this part: twenty year residents, tax paying wage earners with property and families....What do you suggest. Hanging from a rope until dead?
We are talking about people here. We are NOT talking about the drug dealers, tax-evaders, welfare recipients or the likes. What are you going to do with the full grown woman who was brought here as a three year old child, who has been an honest productive resident and has a family here and nothing...nothing in Mexico? Shoot her? Remember, her crime of misdemeanor is not her own, it was her parents.
Tell me your solution...come on. Pretend that you have a microphone in your face and you have ten seconds to answer....I'm waiting 10...9...8...7...
Yeah, right. An illegal is going to prove he's been in the country 20 years. LOL. In addition to granting amnesty, this bill would also have the benefit of giving a major boost to the document fraud industry.
What do you suggest. Hanging from a rope until dead?
No. Just preventing them from getting jobs, government services, and in general making their lives here difficult. With the right incentives, they will self-deport.
Okay, you're for firing this woman and making her life miserable, even though I've outlined that she is an employee of a University and has been for 15 years (can prove it...has payed taxes). We can also show she has owned her home for 13 years (made mortgage payments, paid taxes). So we sieze her property too and send her back to a country that she was taken from at age three? What of her 15 year old citizen daughter, that was born legally in the U.S. as a THIRD generation resident. What are we going to do to her? Make her life miserable so whe wants to go...Where?
Your ignorance of the ramifications is showing.
If she has a citizen daughter who's a minor, there are already provisions under existing law that can allow her to apply for residency.
She has residency.... for now, then what.
You answered one of my questions...what about the others.
If I lived in his district it would trouble me that he could go through so much money, in such a short time, during a time of good investment potential. It would concern me from a judgement and decision-making capacity and his ability to make fiscal decisions for my district.
Exactly...that's why this election is not a one issue race. Jacob has better decision making skills and a better reputation as far as personal ethics are concerned.
You should have read the thread here last night on Arizona and Don Goldwater all because of a report from a Spanish (Spain) news agency via the AP on a comment he was supposed to have made on illegal immigrants and his plan to deal with them..... of course, the article made mention of McCain condemning the comments (no shock there) and Kolbe (who is retiring and, again, no shock there)
I think the poster asked to have it pulled because it got so nasty -- many of the same people showed up there, with a few new ones. You have to live in a state to know what the political climate is....
BTW very interesting post here out of the Washington Times this morning on how the climate around the entire country is changing over this issue -- and it was a very unflattering expose' of our current representation in DC -- including places like Massachusetts are changing their mindset.
Well, nothing. If it were up to me, I'd let her stay until her daughter turns 18, and then I'd kick her out, but current law pretty much lets her stay indefinitely.
You answered one of my questions...what about the others.
I don't care if she owns her own home, has had a steady job, or has been here 20 years. Yes, she should be kicked out of her job and sent packing. And don't give me the BS that she's got nowhere to return to. Illegals have large extended families back home to whom they send billions of dollars to every year. She can return to them. Let the people she's been taking care of all these years take care of her for a change.
It's our country, and we have a right to determine who we let in. She snuck in against our will, violated our rights as a nation, and as a result has absolutely no right to be here. If she owns real estate, she can hire an agent to sell it for her and send her the proceeds in the mail.
