So Schlesinger counted cards: not sure if that's a gambling problem, but geez. The last candidate the Republicans chose to run against Lieberman ended up being a child molester, and is now in prison.

Card counting's not so bad, by politician standards. Although, it would probably take a very experienced card counter to be able to keep track of what the federal government's doing with our tax dollars.

Yeah, come to think of it, it could be a good qualification for office.

This "news" is proof that Democrats are becoming worried about Joe Lieberman's chances of winning the primary.

No, not a cheating problem. There is no law against counting cards, its just that the casinos don't want to someone playing who can beat them. I don't see any problem with someone trying to get the odds in their favor once in a while. Counting cards shows that the person has an excellent memory for facts and figures.

Card counting isn't cheating, unless you believe casinos have a right to your money and you are required to sit there like a bump on a log. On the other hand, it doesn't help the candidate.

Being tossed out for card counting is like being tossed out for having a brain.

There are doctorates in Math that have a hard time with that, much less someone who counts cards.

Sounds like a cheating problem.

I understand that the casinos don't want players improving their odds against the house, but why is counting the cards "cheating"? Isn't counting just using the information from the overall game to make better decisions?

Given the caliber of many in Congress, maybe that is a disqualification.

The politics of personal destruction machine is being turned on the Republican. Here they go again.

Guess I'll be the bad guy here. We may as well bail and give this one to Joe, it is not like a Conservative stands a chance there and a lib that supports the GWOT(Lieberman) beats a lib that wants to run away crying (Lamont).

I wonder if we can recruit Ann Uccello, the last great GOP Mayor of Hartford (and a Conservative, to boot !). Yeah, she's in her 80s, but it's time to correct the oversight of her being denied the right to be the first woman Governor of CT back in 1970, by making her the first woman U.S. Senator from CT ! ;-)

Isn't there a single principled conservative Republican in Connecticut who will pick up the gauntlet and run a vigorous campaign against these two lefties? It may come down to Race Bannon or me. If Race doesn't throw his hat in the ring I'm announcing my candidacy. Will CT vote for a former bartender, opera singer and stay-at-home-Dad for Senator? We shall see.

A facinating idea. However, I'm more along the lines of Congressman Rob Simmons, a decorated Vietnam Veteran and former CIA Agent.

Some names being bandied about:

The US Attorney in CT, Kevin O'Connor

The mayor of Danbury (about 75,000 people), Mark Boughton. Boughton is known for trying to get state police to arrest illegal immigrants for being in the country illegally. He's said that the high number of immigrants in Danbury have strained services, education, and led to overcrowded housing units. Most of the immigrants in Danbury are from Ecuador.

Unfortunately, if Simmons runs and loses, we lose his House seat. We could risk running 4 Mayors, including Norwalk Mayor Richard Moccia; Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton; New Britain Mayor Timothy Stewart & Milford Mayor James L. Richetelli, Jr.
