Allen is the second best that we have for 08.He would make a much better nominee for conservatives than Romney or even Newt.Allen is not perfect..but he deserves respect. His Pro-life position is his weakest,IMHO, he has been good on spending and great on taxes and Judges.

Allen is the second best that we have for 08. Please, let's get our facts straight. There isn't another viable candidate with a better pro-life record. Those are facts you can verify.
Heaven knows I've posted 'em dozens of times here on FR.

My concern is that Chuckie Schumer is already spending a bunch of money in VA on worthless fake websites so you know they are planning on pouring money in there.Allen will win,but Webb is the best candidate the Democrats have nationwide.
To: theworkersarefew
Kerry did the same thing in 2004...initially. They pulled all their Virginia resources in October.

what are you talking about? what does this have to do with my post?I simply said that wasn't his strongest position. That he was better when talking about taxes and Judges. We will not know who is or isn't viable until the Club for Growth and FRC make their endorsements.

I'm talking about the continued misstatement from Pence supporters and others who say George Allen is "weak" on life issues.
His record is as good as anyone's out there.
That said, abortion will not decided the 2008 nomination ~or~ the election.

Democrats usually win with Southerners who make strange Jeffersonian noises. Northeasterners and West Coasters don't trust such characters and don't know what to make of them, but liberals and big city Democrats eventually do take them to heart.
Republicans win with candidates with Middle Western roots who most likely live on the East or West Coast. A lot of voters trust that Midwestern candor or simplicity. That's what Allen was, and what he'll have to be again if he really wants to win.

I don't think Webb is nearly as strong as he's been made out to be. He "surged" to the high 30s in polls over the last month or so, and Allen has a huge advantage in campaign cash that hasn't even been tapped yet.
One of Allen's biggest assets in a presidential election is that he comes from a state that has been getting increasingly "blue" in recent decades as it has gotten more urbanized and has attracted more immigrants.

Well you wannabe conservatives can vote for Rudy or McMTranslation: "Whaaaa Whaaaa Whaaaa! You didn't fall in line with what we self-annointed True Conservatives say, so I'm gonna call you names!"
I wrote (how those eyes workin' for ya?) that I like his pro-life stance. That's great, but this article doesn't give me any reason to think he's this incredible super-conservative you folks say he is. "He thinks DC should be sold back to Maryland" gee, ya think? When's the last time a Repubican went to Washington who DIDN'T say that kind of easy one-liner?
You robots go march in step with what they tell you. I want a conservative, not a poseur, and I'll decide for myself, not have it fed to me by The Accepted Wisdom you so obviously need to make up your mind for you. That you're so easily satisfied speaks volumes--that you can't come up with an answer to my question as to WHY you're so high on him but run straight to insult is curious--gonna win the White House that way? LOL

Allen is a good man but I honestly believe Giuliani would have the best chances vs Hillary in the General Election.
I think Giuliani will win the GOP nomination.
McMeMeMeMe (rofl) has really has no chance. The Liberal press wants to think he does but he has burned way too many bridges to get the nomination. I'm betting he will finish behind Giuliani and Allen, though ahead of Tancredo (if he's running).
Condi is not likely to run but all pictures change if she does.

Sheesh, what a stupid answer.

He meets two of the most important criteria in presidential elections these days:
1. He's from a southern state.
2. He's about as inoffensive as any candidate I've ever seen.
Point #2 is far more important than most people realize. American voters will almost always prefer a candidate who is reputed to be marginally intelligent or even one with deep-rooted psychiatric problems (see Bill Clinton) over one who comes across as highly intelligent and has superior qualifications -- IF the latter candidate is not an affable fellow who people are willing to see in their living rooms on television for the next four years.

Ok...I'll confess ignorance on this: Who is Webb?

True, but he doesn't meet the third most important criteria:
3.He's a senator. Of course, so's HRC.... (but will she be the nominee? I am starting to doubt that a lot.)

I'm predicting that Giuliani won't even be a serious candidate in 2008. He's basically going to be the 2008 version of Colin Powell for the GOP -- i.e., the closet Democrat who gets trotted around on the campaign trail to bolster support among one voting bloc or another.

I should have phrased that better--he doesn't meet #3 NOT a senator.

It doesn't matter that he's a senator. He used to be the governor of Virginia, and he probably would still be governor of Virginia if that state didn't have such a strict term limits law (governors cannot serve more than ONE consecutive term).
Keep in mind that most of the so-called "front-runners" among the Democrats are also U.S. Senators.

I checked with an Elections Law attorney, any money given to him for his Senate campaign, that he does not use, can be retained for a future campaign. Just in case he happened to be running for anything in, oh, I don't know, 2008 maybe.
That seems to be a way around donation limits, though I personally don't have enough cash to hit the limit for either campaign. He's certainly not going to use all the Senate money he's got NOW to beat Webb - he can do it with one wallet tied behind his back.
