Call it what it is: Third World War

Terry Thompson

The last world war ended in 1945. Fascism with all of its ruthless tyrannical characteristics was defeated from the Ural mountains westward across Europe, the Atlantic and Western Hemisphere to Asia. It was truly a world war and not many nations escaped its dominating influence.

Since the Allied victories in Europe and Asia in 1945, there has been almost continuous conflict across the face of the planet.

There have been arguments over whether the Korean War was in fact a war or a peace action. The influence of the United Nations and an international community heavily devoted to political correctness has dulled the meaning of otherwise explicit definitions of the perverse side of the nature of man.

In some quarters, the more politically acceptable term "insurgent" has displaced "terrorist" as if it were just another peace-loving soldier blowing up innocent men, women and children.

The recent miscalculation of Hezbollah in Lebanon is an example of how smug terrorist organizations have become. Lulled by entire populations attempting to overlook random rocket attacks and suicide bombings, the terrorist groups have been led to believe those who seek to protect their free and democratic societies have no limit to their serene patience.

Now, after years of tolerating indiscriminate assaults on innocent people, the Israelis have called both the terrorists and the UN to task.

All promises by the international community to keep the peace in the region have failed. The Lebanese government is heavily influenced by Hezbollah disguised as Hamas, a Palestinian Sunni Islamic organization.

It currently forms the democratically elected government of the Palestinian people. It has elected representatives in the government of Lebanon. Hamas is not on the United Nations' list of terrorist organizations and some member nations consider it to be an independence movement.

It is however, listed as a terrorist organization by Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Israel and the United States. Hamas is banned in Jordan.

The actions of Hezbollah earn them the condemnation of free nations. They hide among crowded settlements of innocent non-combatants. They move by stealth and threaten local communities with retribution should they resist their dominating tactics. They persist in actions that demand firm response and revel in the international publicity they generate when innocent women and children are caught in the crossfire.

If the International Commission on War Crimes is looking for the perpetrators of the killing of the innocent, they should not look at the victims. It has become abundantly clear the real criminals are those who wish to perpetuate their radical Islamic beliefs enforced through terrorism on all of the peoples of the free world.

So what does this tell us about the Israeli response that initially was about its two soldiers abducted by Hezbollah?

As the first shots were fired bringing about the latest conflict, it may have been about abduction, but Hezbollah miscalculated the Israeli response. The Israelis have declared enough is enough. The current conflict is no longer about kidnapped soldiers; it is about a third world war that has been in progress for the past 10 years.

The UN has failed to broker a peaceful settlement acceptable to both sides. No ceasefire can be negotiated under the prevailing conditions because it can only result in a return to the status quo.

No coalition of the willing has emerged simply because those who support Israel, namely Australia, Canada, the U.K. and the U.S., are buying time for the Israelis to clean the rot out of Lebanon for their own safety and for the eventual freedom of the Lebanese people.

Iran and Syria cannot intercede with force on behalf of Hezbollah, whom they already support, for fear of aggravating a world opinion somewhat critical of their actions. And so the surrogate war continues as it has for the past 20 years.

We have now identified the enemy; he is not a peace-loving Muslim who believes in the goodness of Allah and declares his allegiance to a free and democratic society, he is a radical Islamic terrorist.

Call him Taliban, al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas or whatever fits his radical religious views, he is still a terrorist and he lives in most countries of the free world.

He will continue to disrupt all peace-loving peoples for as long as there are those who preach appeasement rather than contribute to the bold arrest of this cancerous growth -- a growth that has begun to affect the very core of all free and democratic societies. This is the Third World War and it should be declared as such.

Disagree. If it is a world war, it is WW4.
WW2 was a war between the free world and facist-militarism(Germany/Italy/Japan). WW3 was a war (sometimes cold and sometimes hot) between the free world and the Communist world with Korea, Vietnam, the Cuban Missile crisis, the Berlin wall, the Hungarian Revolution, etc, all battles on the road of ultimate victory by the free world over communism..

Or maybe he is just a good Muslim. There is no such entity as a "radical" Muslim, call the terrorists what they are "Fundamentalists", or simply good Muslims.

It all depends how one defines a "World War". The best definition that I have heard is, "A conflict that involves all the worlds major powers with combat taking place on several continents and oceans." By that definition we're probably up around WWVI. The French Revolution/Napoleonic Wars would certainly qualify.

WW0, it's been going on for 600 years, and involves Islam and the rest of the world.

"...Fascism with all of its ruthless tyrannical characteristics was defeated..."

Not true. Fascism along with its ugly cousins communism and socialism are never defeated. They are beaten back as needed but they never go away.

Yah.. I think you have a good point. Terrorism, radical Islamism et al, is more like a deadly Aids or bird flue virus and we're not going to kill it or eradicate it with conventional hi-tech weapons systems.
The other side uses a $10 explosive device and someone prepared to die for their cause while we have $20 million dollar laser guided bombs to take out 2 or 3 suspects.. If this is going to be a war of attrition and we continue to fiight it the way we are, we'll run out of money before they run out of dopes prepared to die for their cause. And ironically, our current approach may be producing the virus faster than we can contain it.

Point taken.

Crusades:

Combatants:

Various Islamic peoples (Turks, Egyptians, Moors, Arabians, Syrians) vs. Christian Peoples (Franks, Teutons, Spaniards, Portuguese, Normans, Anglo Saxons)

Theaters:

Balkans, Anatolia, Palestine, Iberia, Sicily, Africa, Mediterranean Sea.

Sounds like a "World War" to me.

How many times did the Turks threaten Vienna AFTER the Crusades were long over? Several times. I'm sick of Islam blaming everything on the Crusades when they pillaged the Balkans & Central Europe for a few hundred years.

Don't forget the Mediterranean theater in the 19th century, and Philipine theater in the 20th, both featuring Islam vs US.

I think we need to just stop numbering them. The advances of travel and technology make all wars world wide in some extant.

Not a rebuke, just a coment... :)
