Black flag: Unsers busted at crime scene

ALBUQUERQUE -- Right in the middle of today’s deadly carjacker pursuit, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department arrested two members of Albuquerque’s famous Unser racing family. Both Al Unser Sr. and Bobby Unser Sr. were booked into the Metro Detention Center this afternoon charged with failure to obey a police officer and resisting arrest.

Both walked out of the jail about 3:30 p.m.

The brothers, who have a combined seven checkered flags at the Indianapolis 500 and are huge names in the racing world, apparently thought their celebrity status meant they were above the law.

The police pursuit of a stolen car, complete with reported shotgun fire aimed at pursuing officers, ended about 11 a.m. when the suspect crashed into another car and then accidentally or deliberately shot himself to death with the sawed-off shotgun. That dramatic conclusion happened at an intersection close to some Unser family property.

While the incident was still unfolding, Bernalillo County sheriff's investigators allege Al Unser started going through a roadblock in an attempt to get to his property. Despite six or seven warnings to leave the area, he still refused to leave, saying it was his property--he owned it.

When the deputy told him he would be arrested, Unser allegedly said, “You can't take me to jail,” and began cussing at the officer.

Officers report he then jerked away and said, “Don't you know who I am? I'm Al Unser.”

A short time after he was arrested, Bobby Unser showed up. Deputies said he, too, refused to leave and resisted arrest.

Both were transported to holding cells at the Valley substation before being taken to jail.

“They simply told them numerous times to leave the area, and they simply refused to do so,” Erin Kinnard of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department said. “Were not talking about a situation where we're trying to catch a shoplifter.

“This was a serious and dangerous situation.”

KRQE News 13 was told Al Unser threatened the arresting officer, telling him he would get back at him some day.

People on the scene also said the deputies didn’t recognize Al Unser and didn’t care who he was, they just wanted the men to leave since shots were being fired in the area.

Contacted later, Al Unser Jr. declined a request for an interview. KRQE News 13 was unable to reach Bobby Unser.

This thread is getting heated. You are getting revved up with someone by the handle, IronJack. With a name like that it should give you a clue. Look forward in talking to you on another thread.

Travis argued with Tony Snow right before Snow's appointment

Then JR argued with him and bang ....that was it....another 8 year freeper gone over squabbling with open borders types

JR has purged most of these threads and all of Snow's comments here

I sleep very soundly at night. May God bless both of you as much as He's blessed me.

No. If I were, there wouldn't be an ounce of skin left on your bones.

Travis was canned for advocating civil war. Jim asked him explicitly if that's what he meant, and he said yes.

Poof!!

Why, thank you very much. I'll cease and desist the sniping, then.

Do trouble yourself to look up Ironjack's role in the FR over the years, Gb58. It's not a small one.

Same here.

I get involved sometimes maybe more than I should. I just went to the Danville, Illinois vets facility with my son yesterday at his request, he has lingering physical problems that he got in Iraq, that could eventually interfere with his cop job.

Maybe if the incident took place on Jerry Parks Ave. things could've been a little more lively. Instead the incident merely took place on Unser Drive, and the Unsers were taken into custody after displaying extreme, undue interest in their property. After all, there's no legal precedent anywhere in the world with respect to property (happiness, yes, property no; if this property makes you happy, well, then, you'll have to make other plans as we've got a firm grip on it).

Here in the States the Declaration of Independance gives lip-service to "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness", while the French motto is "life, liberty & fraternity. Whatever floats your boat, just don't insist on property being something to float your boat, eh?

Boat's don't float on property anyways, since according to international law, the sea is part and parcel to that of sovereign and independant states and boats are blown about by the capricious winds of international affairs. That's what the mandate of the U.N. is: to look out for the best interest of the administrative junkies tasked and mandated to ensure that fees & fines will be collected so as to supplement & subsidize the budget of the fees & subsidies collection arm of the international bureau of fraternity & happiness.

Yes, the report has conflicting information. It is possible the road is on their property to begin with. More information is needed.

Didn't know him but I am very curious about "farmfriends" ban. Know anything about her?

You don't like authority.

No, I don't. I tolerate it as a necessary evil. You, on the other hand, kowtow to it.

God help your boss.

God help our country.

Or your wife.

Don't have one.

No. I don't even recall farmfriend. Oh, wait.

Was she the one who put up threads about a dating service for farmers?

LOL! At least you're honest in your parochial vision of the world, sinkie.

As for the other, I went toe to toe with Clinton's hirelings on FR and only flinched a tad.

You, you're small potatoes.

I'm sure I've read his posts before as I read about everything that comes up here, the older I get the poorer my memory gets. We disagree on this issue but would probably agree on most.
