The Fresno/Central Valley Chapter cordially invites all FReepers and Lurkers in good standing to attend our 5th Annual Free Republic Rally and Tailgate Picnic (and FR's 10th Anniversary celebration) to be held on September 8th and 9th, 2006.
Our rally will begin at 6:30 pm and end at 8:30 pm Friday night, at the corner of Blackstone and Shaw in Fresno. Afterwards, the group will retire for dinner, refreshments and fellowship at a nearby restaurant (time and place to be announced).
Our tailgate pot-luck picnic will be at Woodward Park on Saturday, September 9th. We've reserved the "Gazebo" area for the full day. We'll probably start arriving about 1:00 pm and will dine and party till dark.
The entrance to Woodward Park is on Audubon Drive, just off Freeway 41 on the northern edge of Fresno. The Gazebo area is near the center of the park (see park map).
Bring your flags, banners, signs, family and children. Prepare to support your country and enjoy the company of your good FReeper friends!

Thanks.
Looking forward to meeting you face to face , doug
Finally, DD!
I just got back from vacation. I called work to see if I have requested the day off, and the girl who does the schedule is on vacation! I will try to make it if at all possible.
Sure hope you will be able to make it. It won't be the same without you.
Hope you had a great vacation.
Hey, Syncro.
I thought that you would be the first one to say you would be attending the rally and picnic.
How many guests shall I put you down for?
Well you be attending the rally and picnic on the 8th and 9th?
Saundra, do you still have your bullhorn? Looks like we will need it. :)
I hope you are still planning to attend the FReeper Rally and Picnic next month.
We are looking forward to meeting you.
You have been missed.
Would love to have you join us again.
Oh, good. What was I thinking? AmTrak only goes from Bakersfield to Fresno. They have a bus from L.A. to Bakersfield. Now, wouldn't that be fun? A stinking, smelly bus with people who got on at the 3rd world station in Los Angeles. John Rocker, do you have anything to say about that?
My mother and I rode the Amtrak bus from Bakersfield to Los Angeles about 12 years ago. We then took Amtrak to Alburque where I rented a car and drove to visit relatives in Texas.
The bus was not too bad but I would have preferred to have taken the train from Bakersfield to LA. The valley trains are pretty good. They run Bakersfield to the bay area. There are several train a day.
Have you checked flying into Fresno? Unless you can get a pretty good deal, it can be more expensive than flying to New York.
Also, there may be others coming up from LA; maybe we can check on ride sharing.
I may do ride sharing, but my back still hurts from the drive up to Washington and back.
La Enchiladita is coming up from Southern California.
We are waiting to hear from The Spirit of Allegiance. There may be others but these are the ones that I have heard from so far.
TSOA and I have spoken.
I checked Amtrak vs. Greyhound (L.A. Union Station to Fresno) and Amtrak gets there a lot faster (same fare!). My guess is that the Amtrak bus isn't as bad as the Greyhound but don't know. I need to talk to the Amtrak people via phone as well as checking the web.
Unfortunately, flights can be hideously expensive... too bad I don't work for SkyWest any longer.
I checked out this place on the web, JustAmy: Best Western Garden Court Inn
2141 North Parkway Drive
Fresno, CA 93705
Is that a good location for the rally and the Peek-Nique?
Thanks.
I would be interested to hear what you learn about the bus.
I don't think the Amtrak bus is as bad as the Greyhound.
I haven't been on Greyhound for many, many years.
Thanks. That'll be enough, I'm sure.
What a coincidence! We Minnesota FReepers have our second annual picnic planned for September 9th in Minneapolis. (Maybe we'll have to post pics on your thread. :)
Congrats on 10 fabulous years Jim! Wish I could be at the BIG event.
