This month there will be an important and historic vote in the California Assembly, on Senate Bill 840. If passed, and signed by the governor, SB840 will provide comprehensive, high quality health insurance for all Californians. The bill provides for one health insurance plan (single payer) that covers every California resident, high quality care and comprehensive benefits, choice of personal physicians, and affordability for individuals, families and businesses. Incredibly, nearly 7 million Californians lack health insurance during all or part of the year. Roughly 70 percent of these people are employed but do not receive employer-based insurance. Many insured Californians are find themselves "under-insured," meaning they have health insurance but procedures or benefits are excluded or are only partially covered.
In California, with the sixth-largest economy in the world, it is past time to offer our citizens what so many other nations offer, universal single payer coverage for all Californians.
This state should be a vanguard for the rest of the nation
It passed the CA Senate in 2005 and now it's in the CA Assembly.
This would be a total disaster not just because of the tremendous cost, but also, because it would result in enormous decline in the quality and accessibility of health care. Just look at the UK and Canadian socialized medicine systems, where people wait years for life saving surgeries.
Considering the CA Legislature is dominated by Dems, it is expected to pass in the Assembly.
And I bet you dollars to donuts, that if Angelides gets elected, he will sign it.
If there ever was a bill worthy of Arnold's veto, this is definitely it.
Interesting that I have to read about it in a small Redlands paper, which also shows their bias in their reporting -- the MSM is quiet about this -- looks like the Dems are trying to pass it as a stealth bill.
It passed in the Assembly Committee on Aug. 16, 2006.
Now how do we all invest to capitalize on all the future outsourced medical care from Californians crossing state lines to get treated (2 or 3 years down the road)?
Here is an article from Aug. 10, before the Assembly Committee passed it:
Bill's supporters seeking state-run health insurance

Democratic state lawmakers are embracing the one solution to spiraling health care costs that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says he has ruled out: eliminating private insurance plans in favor of a single-payer system that allows the state government to buy health services for everyone.
With three weeks left in the legislative session, a single-payer bill, Senate Bill 840 by Sen. Sheila Kuehl, D-Santa Monica, is heading toward the Assembly floor for a vote.
The measure establishes a system that, in theory, would be funded by payroll taxes on businesses of 8 percent and individual income taxes of 3 percent. Those taxes would replace the premiums that individuals and businesses now pay to insurance companies.

It's comforting to know that Arnold ruled it out, so presumably he would veto it, if it hits his desk. But if Angelides gets elected, he'll sign it.
Another very good example of why we must get out the vote to defeat Angelides. There is no limit to what damage he, combined with the out of control socialist Dem CA Legislature can do to California.
The Republican governor has criticized the single-payer approach as a "tax increase."
Excellent point! We in Arizona are conveniently located, but in reality many states are just a short airline flight away.
Let's make sure that we have a governor who won't sign this bill in the first place.
A statewide campaign to grow support for universal health care and a single-payer health care system in California kicked off Saturday in Morro Bay.
The campaign called OneCareNow will travel to 364 additional cities in the next year to raise support for the universal health care bill, SB 840, which is moving through the state Legislature. The campaign started in one of the states smallest cities, Morro Bay, and will end next August in the largest, Los Angeles.
The campaign is scheduled to end next August when the Legislature is set to vote on SB 840. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger does not support a single-payer system, calling it a tax increase. Gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides has said he would sign the bill if he wins the November election.
ANOTHER MAJOR DIFFERENCE between Arnold and Angelides. Conservatives take note.
Apparently they think they can repeal the law of "High Quality, Fast Service, Low Price - Pick any two."
(No more Olmert! No more Kadima! No more Oslo!)
Or the line, skirting the DF, and up through the desert, stretching from Oaxaca to San Diego.
Employer-provided insurance was the result of wartime wage controls. There is no reason today why people should be tied to employer-provided plans. People would be better served if employer-provided insurance was not the norm.
Or even the law of "Pick any one."

Oh, I see. It's OK if the US (or the CA) is paying for being in my uterus -- as long as I still get to destroy the innocent life in there.
Thank God I don't even have a uterus.
Want to put a wager on that?
What is your insurance premium, as a percentage of your income?
