Group of gay hopefuls to challenge military's policy

PHOENIX We've all heard of the military's "don't ask, don't tell policy," which bans service members from being openly gay. Under the policy, military personnel are not allowed to talk about being gay or even admit it.

But in more than 30 cities across the country, including Phoenix, homosexuals will be challenging the thirteen-year-old policy in a nationwide campaign they have named Right to Serve.

As they try to sign up at recruiting offices, they will also disclose their sexual orientation.

Twenty-four-year-old Meg Sneed says she plans to do just that at the Coast Guard office in Phoenix on September 20th.

She knows she will be rejected.

But Sneed says that's not the point. She says the point is that in spite of risking a chance of fulfilling a teenage dream to join the military, she will be honest about who she is.

Some applaud Sneed and the young activists for their courage, while others say it's just a stunt and that gays should be banned from the military, period.

The military, in my civilian opinion, cannot afford to recruit deranged people ... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1686831/posts

"in a nationwide campaign they have named Right to Serve."

It's been said a thousand times here but there is NO "right to serve". Military service is a priviledge, not a right. MANY people are turned away for MANY different reasons.

"Group of gay hopefuls..."

What the heck is a "gay hopeful"?

ex: Davis Love III is a "Ryder Cup hopeful", meaning he hopes to make the team...

Nowhere is it said you cannot serve your country if you are gay. What the laws do stipulate is you keep it to yourself. Homosexuality, at it's root, is inconsistent with military service. It is deviant behavior and is counter to good order and discipline. The UCMJ has numerous articles governing heterosexual conduct. Fraternization (134), rape and carnal knowledge (120), sodomy (125), pandering and prostitution (134), wrongful cohabitation (134) and adultery (134) to name just six. If heterosexuals are prohibited from committing sodomy, why should homosexuals be permitted otherwise? It's hypocrasy.

The only actual "hope" the protestors could have is the publicity, not any legal gain - unless Senator Kennedy and Justice Breyer and the ACLU have already gotten together, arranged for the protestors representation and lined up the staged court process by which their judicial oligarchs will issue some new dcrees.

Now matter what else is happening, in the world or in Washington D.C., if a Democrat controlled judiciary committee is not enough to get out the GOP vote, nothing is.

It's not about serving their country. They want to turn the military into a San Franciso bath house.

These same activists would scream bloody murder if they ever had to do what the military is designed for: defending this country.

There is no "right" to serve in the military, but leave it to the loony left to create one.

As a burley Master Chief explained it to me,

Having spent many nights in a foxhole in the infantry during the early seventies,I could not imagine sharing one with a homosexual. As many an infantryman can testify,a lot of very personal things happen in them.I.E.,changing clothes, basic body maintenance, using 'the restroom'etc.A lot of which can not be done in the dark!

If there was a draft, they'd be using their queerness to get out of military service. What freakin' hypocrites.

But they obviously want to join out of choice, so if there was a draft, don't you think they'd keep the fact that they were gay out of registration? That would be the smart thing to do....
