*shrug* It's a little like snow. You may not know how many inches you're going to get, but you can be pretty sure it's going to last a long time...

You are correct, the History Channel and also National Geographic Channel have been showing several programs on the subject, some are new, but most are reruns.

There is a lot of activity in Mexico, but I am not aware of the current status of recent sightings.

Glad my running rough sense of things is not totally off base on those scores.

Thanks.

"The idea that a Sinai volcano (or for those into it, a volcano in Arabia) would produce a pillar of cloud by day, and pillar of fire by night, makes sense. For it to be really impressive, it would probably have to be close by. I think the figure for curvature of the Earth (on sea) is 50 feet gets you twenty miles. But the width of the column would get smaller in a hurry, so one would be stuck with a massive volcano which isn't in evidence in the region. "

Some guy did the calculations on this I don't remember all the details but he said the plume would have to be 30 miles high to be seen in Egypt. As a reference, Pinatubo (Phillipines) was 26 miles high.

:’) And there’s still no caldera of anything close to the right age.

“St. Louis Gateway Arch The St. Louis Gateway Arch is an elegant monument to westward expansion in the USA. Located on the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri, the 630-foot tall stainless steel arch rises above the city skyline.”

You seem to be underestimating that St. Louis arch a mite. Apparently it is NINE times as tall as you say.
