Bump for later.
BFLR
Interesting, I've never seen a Crimson Trace coming from a guide rod in a semi-auto.
Thank you for this article.
I am realizing that I am a bit short on my home defense and end of the world tools. While I have a nice old 12 gauge automatic I might need a more up to date shotgun capable of spitting out death and destruction in a fast and orderly manner.
I already have the handgun and rifle thing down.
"As I mentioned, my wife doesn't care to shoot all that much, but she will dry-fire on occasion,"
Yeah, like you don't?!! :)
If I've got an attacker coming at me down the hall, I'm not going to have time to put a shotgun to my shoulder and look for a bead. I'm going to fire from the hip. You can try it when you go out tomorrow (Tommorow is the opening day of dove season remember!)
wow.. i hope the liberals don't get ahold of this artical.. they're gonna flip out!
Great artical. i thank you for posting it!

I'm not saying I'm an expert but...I'm an expert. Put a light on your gun, Put a light on your gun, Put a light on your gun. Bad things happen at night. Your must identify the threat. Bad guys don't own Surefires. Put a light on your gun, Put a light on your gun, Put a light on your gun.
Surefire.com
1) Anyone can buy a Surefire, including bad guys. 2) Leaving a bright light on for long periods of time makes you a target. Use sparingly for your night vision's sake.
.357
even if I miss a vital target, I'm still stopping the guy (or bear or Mack truck).
.357 is a terrific round, accurate, powerful and flexible - just watch out for overpenetration of your doors and walls. Killing someone else sleeping in the house with a missed shot would ruin your day/week/year/life.
Personally I have a Saiga 12ga in the closet and a Glock 40 cal in the bedside drawer.
KISS
If someone got into a legal shooting situation, they could be labeled in Court as evil for cutting the barrel. It is better to buy the proper barrel length or a already set-up shotgun with a friendly name such as Winchester Defender or the Mossburg Crusier.
I read your note about "clearing" a house, and am not sure what you mean.
My advice to my wife which I would hopefully also follow would be to leave whatever room you and you gun are in only to get to a loved one. Cops have told me that going after a thug through halls etc is only likely to get you killed. It's your house. If you stay still and quiet you will likely have the element of surprise and have the weapon ready. Deciding if you want to give your position away in exchange for scaring them off is a judgement call and I will have to trust my instincts at that point. But I'm not going AFTER anyone.
Center of mass, at least two shots. KISS.
