The apparent absence of shadows where shadows were expected to be is raising new questions about the faint glow of microwave radiation once hailed as proof that the universe was created by a "Big Bang."
In a finding sure to cause controversy, scientists at UAH found a lack of evidence of shadows from "nearby" clusters of galaxies using new, highly accurate measurements of the cosmic microwave background.
A team of UAH scientists led by Dr. Richard Lieu, a professor of physics, used data from NASA's Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) to scan the cosmic microwave background for shadows caused by 31 clusters of galaxies.
"Among the 31 clusters that we studied, some show a shadow effect and others do not," said Lieu. If the standard Big Bang theory of the universe is accurate and the background microwave radiation came to Earth from the furthest edges of the universe, then massive X-ray emitting clusters of galaxies nearest our own Milky Way galaxy should all cast shadows on the microwave background.
These findings are scheduled to be published in the Sept. 1, 2006, edition of the Astrophysical Journal.

Another story about this is here.
BTW, thanx so much for the ping.
Or it would cast doubt on the measurement. See post #85.
Of course. A high school science project is not likely to overthrow a well established and well validated scientific theory. But if repeated attempts to verify the prediction of a theory prove unsuccessful, it undermines the theory. It's like Michelson-Morely's null result.
What if... the Garden of Eden was a prequel to the Garden of the Universe?.. The Universe being the expansion of the same theme.. i.e. "be fruitful and multiply".. except not physically but spiritually.. What a drama that would be..
You know where I am going with this.. i.e. the Book of Worms(BOW)..
I know... I know I'm like an ideological book with one page.. LoL..
That Book of Worms must have wormed my mind.. and consumed it..
Carl Sagan said, "life must've started somewhere FIRST"...
If that place was/is earth(no other evidence/proof of life)..
The possibilities(of that) are pregnant with hope for this Universe..
Why such a huge Universe with no other life in it.. WHY?..
How many eons would it take to fill this Universe with lifeforms?.. Tested by a/the chrysalis(physical/spirit) archetype on earth.. A model of culture construction for corporate lifeforms..
If this Tale or Yarn (or a epiphany) is just a tale it would still be a really cool TV show/ movie/ or even a novel.. LoL.. So I don't feel ashamed at sharing it this Lords Day... Populating the/this Universe would indeed be an expansion of the Garden of Eden.. and superior to it.. No wonder the Garden of Eden did and should have been been eclipsed to a greater plan and fullfillment of the whole creation.. NOW theres a creation story for you... LoL..
*The truth of science*? How?
Science changes by the day. What *true* today is not necessarily going to be *true* tomorrow.
Why believe in something so unsubstantial or unreliable?
That statement displays a woeful misunderstanding of the scientific method.
Did he? Well, even if he did say that he didn't mean that all life is descended from that first living thing. There could be billions and billions of such 'first' creaures.
Barely 100 years ago (Laudanum)Opium mixed with Mercuric compounds were given as healing potions.. honestly and ignorantly.. serving up death or living degradation..
What metaphorical Laudanum is being served up today in the various "sciences"..
Only the arrogant would say NONE...
Only the ignorant would assume that the modern scientific community was equivalent to their Victorian counterparts.
The Church?
No. It was their fellow scientists. That is how scien ce works: hypotheseses are proposed, challenged and defended. M
The truth eventually wins out.
Major difference. Scientists are trained, credentialed professionals now.
I see, then, if the bull frog had wings he would Not bump himself along like he does..
You know.. the way God made him.. LoL.. ;)
Gee, shadows predicted by the Big Bang aren't there. Who woulda thunk it?!
Nope actually it was the Herbalists that WERE healing people, some of them.. Course there were quack herbalists too.. like all the so-called medical "doctors" were..
Frogs with wings. I have already exceeded my weekly dietary allowance for animal protein, but next week I will ask Quisnos about it.
"Were" being the operative word in your statement.
As Adam said in the Garden of Eden, "Who is going to know."
Answer: Everybody!.. Adam knew, Eve watched... and is God BLIND?..
Gee, shadows predicted by the Big Bang aren't there. Who woulda thunk it?!
Way to be on top of things.
